Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Operates Horizontal Directional Drill Locator for installation of underground telecommunications cable conduit, including fiber optic cable.
- Confirm bore path with install foreman and drill operator (including walking the bore path).
- Perform job site analysis (JSA) including completion of paperwork.
- Ensure there are proper clearances to install the product per standards.
- Record the depth of the tool head as required.
- Ensure the drill head is in a good position at the exit pit to connect the product.
- Locate telecom utilities with either Digi-Track or Subsite locating systems.
- Ability to work in fast paced environment.
- Ability to work safely and with or without direct supervision.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Valid Driver’s License, CDL a plus.
- Must be in compliance with DOT regulations.
- Experience with locating & verifying all utilities before construction.
- Familiarity with Horizontal Directional Drills, ability to use cable placement equipment and tools.
- Ability to identify and troubleshoot problems.
- Individuals must be able to read prints and have knowledge of the underground process.

Physical Demands
- Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull and reach overhead.
- Lift or move up to 75 pounds.
- Constantly move about on the feet.
- Climb ladders of all types.
- Complete full day assignments involving overhead work.
- Possess good vision, normal or corrected.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Possess good hearing, normal or corrected.
- Wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest) at all times.
- Must be able to work 8 hours a day, 40 hours per week, and overtime as required and night shifts, as needed.
- This position requires flexible work hours.
