Direct Support Specialist

Support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in their homes and community to develop their maximum independence. Respectfully and consistently communicate to develop and maintain quality-based relationships in a healthy environment. Foster a positive, productive team environment with people supported, co-workers, families and community associations. Encourage independence and natural support by providing quality decision-making opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Provide assistance with informed decision-making to enable positive outcomes with activities of daily living including personal care, household chores, health maintenance, and relationship facilitation.
• Promote social opportunities and community inclusion for the individuals.
• Encourage independence and natural support by providing quality decision-making opportunities.
• Promote appropriate communication and interactions consistent with agency values.
• Follow all care plans, including proper administration of medications.
• Objectively monitor, report, and document individuals' status, including implementing care plans and goals.
• Model and maintain a positive, supportive, productive team and work environment in multiple settings.
• Maintain required training, including Safety Care, CPR/AED/First Aid, Human Rights, and HIPAA.
• Demonstrate honesty, reliability, and trustworthiness with a respectful attitude and behavior that strives for excellence.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
• Valid Driver’s License with a good driving background.
• Minimum of 2 to 3 years of experience as a Direct Support Professional or Milieu Therapist.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

Schedule

• Full Time: Tuesday to Saturday or Sunday to Thursday.
• Shifts: 1st and 2nd with some flexibility to occasionally cover 3rd shift.
• Hours: 35 per week.

Positions available in: Cranston, Johnston, and Warwick.

Pay

NEW Pay Rate: $24.00 hourly.

Weekend Pay Differential: additional $1.00/hour.
