Direct Support Professional Overnight Awake - Citizens Driver

About the role

Practices and promotes the agency’s mission statement in every interaction. Provides ongoing support to people during overnight and morning hours, including self-care routines (toileting, feeding, showering, dressing, diapering), health, safety, alternate positioning, and overall well-being to ensure a high quality of life is maintained.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with household chores and participates as needed (e.g., laundry).
  • Follows all treatment plans and uses adaptive and safety equipment to promote independence and ensure health, safety, and well-being.
  • Reports and documents events that may hinder health, safety, or well-being (e.g., allegations of abuse, injuries, broken equipment, falls).
  • Acts as a mandated reporter to the Justice Center if reasonable cause to suspect abuse or neglect exists; follows agency incident policy and procedures.
  • Adheres to Federal and New York State regulations, agency policy, employee handbook, and training requirements.
  • Completes and maintains AMAP certification; assists with medication administration per AMAP policy and procedures.
  • Arrives to work on time; adheres to call-off and overtime policies to ensure consistent support.
  • Supports morning meal preparation, teaching diet adherence, portion control, and cooking skills.
  • Welcomes people with a soft and kind tone; supports preferred morning routines.
  • Accompanies or transports people using safe driving practices to day programs or job locations.
  • Implements and documents treatment plans and agency materials via Medisked or paper (e.g., overnight checklists, goals, valued outcomes, medical case notes, communication logs, BM and menses charts, sleep charts, seizure logs, behavioral data).
  • Serves on the inter-disciplinary team by attending and participating in meetings to discuss progress and goal achievements.
  • Mentors and models supportive routines for new Direct Support Staff; reviews training manuals to ensure preparedness.
  • Performs other duties as requested by supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Qualified New York State Driver’s license meeting agency insurance standards.
  • Successful completion and maintenance of AMAP certification.
  • Ability to communicate and understand written and oral directives; excellent team player with a positive attitude.
  • Qualified driver status required for overnight Direct Support Professionals working 11pm–9am due to morning transportation responsibilities.
