We're actively hiring Direct Support Professionals in Corning, Iowa, for a weekend package: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM. This full-time role offers full-time benefits, including competitive pay, on-demand pay, comprehensive benefits, and generous paid time off.

About the role

This role operates in a Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) setting, providing medical, social, and supportive services for Iowans with functional, cognitive, and other physical or mental health needs. As a Direct Support Professional, you’ll empower individuals to reach their goals and live independently in their communities. You’ll collaborate with a care team—including other professionals, individuals served, and their families—to implement behavioral care plans and creatively support each person’s unique needs.

Responsibilities

  • Goal Input & Person-Centered Support: Collaborate with the HCBS Supervisor and Programmer to develop individualized goals and provide direct support that teaches skills, promotes independence, and encourages participation in recreational and community activities.
  • Behavioral & Rights-Based Support: Use approved behavioral strategies to support individuals with challenging behaviors while respecting rights restrictions as outlined by the interdisciplinary team and individual service plans.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Complete accurate, timely, and Iowa Code–compliant documentation in Setworks, ensuring all required service details, interventions, and individual responses are properly recorded and submitted daily.
  • Direct Care & Community Integration: Provide hands-on support in home and community settings, including daily living assistance, transportation, mobility support, safety monitoring, property respect, and active encouragement of choice and independence.
  • Medication, Scheduling & Professional Responsibility: Administer and document medications per the six rights, follow all agency policies and procedures, maintain reliable attendance (including weekends/holidays), complete required training, and communicate concerns or updates through appropriate channels.

  • Driver’s License: Required for transportation responsibilities.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Physical Demands

  • Must remain awake during working hours.
  • May assist in transferring individuals (e.g., to/from wheelchair, bed, toilet, vehicle).
  • May require lifting up to 35 pounds; heavier lifting requires a two-person lift, mechanical lift, or assistive equipment.
  • May participate in activities of the individual’s choice (e.g., church, swimming, bowling).
  • May require prolonged walking, standing, bending, stooping, or stretching for up to eight hours.
  • May require driving for up to eight hours.
  • May work in various climatic conditions.
  • May work with individuals exhibiting difficult emotional or physical behaviors (e.g., seizures, physical aggression).
  • Must have adequate vision (distance and close work), hearing (conversations in noisy/quiet environments, distinguishing sounds), and speech for effective communication.
  • Must be able to drive and transport individuals as needed.
