About the role

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is a caregiver that supports adults with autism spectrum disorder in a residential setting while maintaining sensitivity to the rights and dignity of the individual. The DSP assists individuals to live a self-directed life, helps with activities of daily living, implements individual programming, and ensures the routine operation of the home. This instruction may occur in group or individual settings, within the person’s home, or in community settings. The DSP reports directly to the Program Supervisor.

This position is part of our Adult Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) Services. Currently hiring for positions in Harrisburg, Hershey, Lancaster, and Lititz, PA.

Responsibilities

• Develop relationships where those we support live, work, or in a community setting to promote and ensure their emotional, physical, and personal well-being.
• Assist adults in developing appropriate life skills necessary to reach their highest level of potential, including interaction with others, cooking, housekeeping, money management, personal hygiene, and other skills in appropriate settings.
• Support individuals' preferences and ensure their interests are honored.
• Actively search for opportunities for those you serve to experience life in their homes and communities based on their hobbies and interests, utilizing community resources to promote community integration, independence, and interdependence.
• Help individuals reach their goals to be more independent by offering guidance, instruction, and role modeling.
• Complete all required documentation, including electronic health records, in an accurate, timely, and professional manner.
• Collaborate and cooperate with involved agencies, family members, and other service providers; participate in meetings and provide relevant information.
• Provide support and assistance to individuals in arranging for medical care when responsible to do so, and follow health care recommendations, including dietary guidelines.
• Conduct fire drills, manage emergency situations during assigned work shifts, and provide coverage in emergency situations.

Requirements

• Must have a valid driver’s license, good driving record, and access to a reliable vehicle to attend trainings, meetings, and/or transport individuals to appointments.
• Administers medication and treatment as permitted under regulations.

Schedule

Full-Time, Part-Time, and Flexible positions available, including 2nd and 3rd shift roles.

Pay

$20/hr. with $1/hr. shift differentials for awake overnight and weekend hours at all locations.
