Direct Support Professional - Community Support Assistant
About the role
The Community Support Assistant will support one to four people living in a suburban or rural community. The role is grounded in each person’s life choices and the facilitation of opportunities to build meaningful relationships. A key focus is fostering personal growth and autonomy.
Responsibilities
- Promote independence, self-advocacy, and decision-making for individuals with disabilities.
- Support individuals in building meaningful relationships within the community.
- Facilitate opportunities for personal growth and autonomy.
Requirements
- Reliable, self-directed, and creative in offering supports that promote choice, independence, and full inclusion in community life.
- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team, responding calmly to change or crisis.
- Experience providing respectful, person-centered support.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build trust.
- Comfortable using technology, including email and documentation systems like iCM.
- Flexibility, problem-solving skills, and a deep commitment to supporting others in reaching their goals.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent, with at least one year of experience supporting people with disabilities preferred.
- A valid Maryland Driver’s License with no egregious violations.
Skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Technology proficiency, including email and documentation systems.
- Flexibility and problem-solving skills.
