About the role
The Kaleidoscope Community Adult Program seeks a self-motivated and reliable Direct Support Professional to work in a caring and supportive environment. This role involves supervising and training participants, assisting with life skills, and implementing IPP goals.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and train participants on specific tasks, routines, and personal life activities.
- Coach participants to stay on task and build a support network.
- Maintain a healthy, safe environment and encourage participation in program activities.
- Provide support for basic living skills such as toileting, hygiene, food preparation, feeding assistance, dressing, and chores.
- Implement IPP goals and behavioral intervention plans.
- Document unusual incidents and coordinate with Program Manager for reporting suspected abuse.
- Communicate progress and needs to parents and collaborate with Easterseals Northern California team members and community resources.
- Procure and prepare daily snacks and ensure work areas are clean.
- Operate company vehicles for transportation of participants (must be 21 years old).
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- At least 21 years of age (for operating company vehicles).
- One year experience working in a team environment coaching and/or teaching adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities preferred.
- Effective communication skills and ability to interact respectfully and sensitively with clients, families, and ESNorCal staff.
- Passionate about teaching and training.
- Patient and positive attitude.
- Good judgment and decision-making skills.
- Confidentiality and discretion.
- Physical requirements: constant walking, supervision, speaking, listening, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, twisting, standing, sitting, and using upper and lower limbs to lift or transfer participants.
- Must obtain and maintain criminal record clearance, CPR certificate, QBS SafetyCare certificate, National Provider Identifier (NPI), and attend all assigned training.
Conditions of Employment
- Must obtain and maintain criminal record clearance through the Department of Justice.
- Must have a valid California Driver’s License with Insurance and maintain a clean driving record.
- Must pass health screenings, obtain vaccinations, and clear TB testing based on company policies.
