About the role

The Association for Individual Development (AID) seeks a Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide comprehensive support to individuals with diverse needs, including physical, developmental, intellectual, and mental health challenges. The position involves implementing individualized strategies, managing client self-care needs, and providing transportation services.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a team approach and implement specific programs from the Individual Plan or Implementation Strategy.
  • Document service provided including recreation, leisure, and activities of daily living.
  • Ensure client rights, dignity, and privacy while maintaining a clean and safe environment.
  • Work with clients requiring intensive care, including special diets and personal/enteral feeding.
  • Assist with medication administration and ensure safe conditions inside and outside the home.
  • Provide transportation for clients and monitor their medical appointments.
  • Participate in community and in-house activities, conduct client input meetings, and assist in training new staff.
  • Perform daily housekeeping tasks and assist clients in independent living skills.
  • Implement behavior support strategies and respond to emergency behavioral issues.
  • Operate adaptive equipment and assist clients with mobility and transfers.
  • Complete required training and certifications, including CPR, First Aid, Infection Control, OIG Rule 50, and CPI.
  • Manage medication administration authorization and perform enteral nutrition tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) or Autism Certificate preferred.
  • Experience working with developmentally disabled adults preferred.
  • Physical requirements: climb stairs daily, push/pull, reach, stoop/bend over, use step stool, lift up to 50 pounds, significant walking and standing.
  • Equipment: computer and software, household appliances, alarm systems, telephone, office equipment, adaptive equipment, agency vehicles.
  • Pass S-TOFHLA literacy test.
  • Valid Illinois driver’s license with minimum automobile liability insurance.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Licenses/Certifications: CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) or Autism Certificate desired.

  • Must maintain medication administration authorization by following all policies and procedures.
  • Must complete additional on-the-job certification for enteral nutrition tasks.
  • Must maintain certification by following all policies and procedures as well as performing enteral nutrition tasks (feeding, medication administration, pump operation, flushing, and dressing care) a minimum of two times per month.
  • Evening, weekend, overnight, and holiday hours required; the DSP schedules are determined by client and program needs and are subject to change.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Illinois driver’s license.
