Direct Support Professional

What You’ll Do

As a Direct Support Professional, you will provide training, coaching, mentoring and counseling to people with disabilities in the areas of appropriate work attitudes, employability, work skills specific to individuals’ employment, social and communication skills, use of adaptive equipment, and positive behavioral change. Training may be delivered in person, via virtual learning, or through employment‑readiness classes.

Responsibilities

• Individual Support and Training: Provide coaching, mentoring, and counseling; utilize positive behavior management techniques per Commonwealth of Virginia guidelines and MANDT protocol; ensure individuals receive required training to reach their maximum potential; assist with transition for newly enrolled individuals; develop creative learning methods; support virtual learning development; address personal needs; perform mobility training/transport as needed.
• Reporting & Compliance: Train, monitor, and support groups in Employment Services or Group Day programs; complete required reporting documents; audit sites for regulatory, procedural, and policy compliance; follow OSHA standards and uniform policies; complete licensing and professional‑development training as required.
• Case Management: Communicate with parents, guardians, residential counselors, and other professionals about progress; coordinate schedules for group training and community‑access outings.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Human Services, Behavior Management, Psychology, or related field OR equivalent experience.
• 1 + year of experience working with people with disabilities in a vocational or residential setting (strongly preferred).
• Customer service experience acceptable as an alternative.
• Computer literacy, particularly with Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to interpret and apply curriculum to support individual learning.
• Strong communication skills and ability to network with community members.
• Valid driver’s license (required).

Compensation

$17‑$18 per hour
