ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Aid participants in engaging in interesting and meaningful activities.
  • Support participants according to their approved plans.
  • Maintain safety and well-being during all program activities.
  • Provide personal care including assistance with restroom use, hygiene, meals, and minor medical issues.
  • Encourage and assist participants in communicating and advocating their preferences.
  • Transport participants to and from Community Day Services locations and the community.
  • Train and supervise DSP1s, ensuring they are properly trained.
  • Administer routine and PRN medications under the direction of an RN Nurse Trainer.
  • Adhere to agency policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Oversee DSP1s by providing training, planning, and directing daily work.
  • Evaluate DSP1s under the supervision of the Program Manager.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in human services field or equivalent experience/training related to supporting individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Must pass the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) with an 80% or higher score.
  • Skills: Effective communication, adaptability, genuine interest in participants' welfare, competence with behavior principles, basic computer operations, physical capabilities for lifting and maneuvering, and driving agency vehicles.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Physical Demands: Regularly uses hands for various actions, stands, walks, sits, bends, stoops, squats, crawls, climbs, reaches, lifts up to 10 lbs, and occasionally lifts between 11 lbs – 50 lbs. Must be able to stay awake during work shifts.
  • Work Environment: Noise level is usually quiet to moderate. Must be able to use hands for repetitive actions, use a keyboard and mouse, and drive agency vehicles.
