About the role
The Association for Individual Development (AID) seeks a Direct Support Professional (DSP) to support individuals with physical, developmental, intellectual, mental health challenges, and those who have experienced trauma or are at risk. The position is based in Elgin, IL and offers full-time, first-shift work with flexibility to work between 7a-6p.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a team approach in working with clients, staff, and outside agencies.
- Implement specific programs from the Individual Plan or Implementation Strategy, and document according to program procedures.
- Familiarize and follow all agency and program rules and regulations.
- Report concerns or issues to the supervisor promptly.
- Plan and prepare meals following menus and recipes, adhering to client dietary requirements.
- Assist with toileting, changing clothes, bathing, grooming, shaving, cleaning glasses and adaptive equipment, and other self-care needs.
- Obtain and maintain medication administration authorization, attend annual training, and minimize medication errors.
- Maintain a clean, sanitary environment inside and out, including reporting safety concerns and participating in safety drills.
- Provide transportation for clients, including monitoring and responding to emergencies.
- Monitor and complete routine and follow-up medical appointments, and assist with public entitlement benefits.
- Train and assist new staff members, and lead by example in demonstrating routines, procedures, and client preferences.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED.
- CNA certification or Autism Certificate preferred.
- Minimum of one year experience working with people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.
- Three years’ experience as a Direct Support Professional preferred.
Requirements
- Physical requirements: climb stairs daily, no medical restrictions preventing lift/transfer or behavioral programs.
- Equipment: computer, software, household appliances, alarm systems, telephone, office equipment, adaptive equipment, agency vehicles.
- Additional requirements: valid Illinois driver’s license, access to a personal cell phone, meeting IDOT-approved driver status, and passing S-TOFHLA literacy test.
