Dining Service Attendant
This role is an academic year position scheduled at 24 hours per week. Shift: Sunday 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM, Monday & Friday 10:00 AM - 6:30 PM. Tuesday - Thursday and Saturday off.
About the role
Tufts Dining is a self-operated food service provider managing a comprehensive collegiate dining program on the Tufts University Medford/Somerville and SMFA/Fenway campus. We deliver high quality, contemporary, and innovative food and hospitality services to meet the needs of students, staff, faculty, administrators, and visitors in a fiscally responsible manner. Our team provides a progressive resident dining program, innovative retail services, and a distinctive university catering program serving a campus community of 6,500 undergraduates, 2,100 graduate students, and 2,300 staff, faculty, and administrators. Residential dining centers and catering are open 7 days a week. Working weekends and evenings will be expected.
Responsibilities
- Provide outstanding service to customers by engaging in a variety of general food service and hospitality-related tasks.
- Greet, welcome, and interact with customers in a warm, friendly manner to promote an atmosphere of hospitality and familiarity.
- Be knowledgeable about the ingredients and preparation methods of food served, especially regarding potential allergens.
- Prepare, assemble, and/or serve various foods and beverages in a professional manner.
- Maintain assigned food service stations, ensuring they are well-tended and storage areas are properly stocked.
- Set up and maintain food service stations throughout service periods and assist elsewhere as customer demand requires.
- Break down, clean, and sanitize food service stations, including service equipment and dining room seating areas, according to established procedures.
- Set up, work, and break down all stations and dining rooms as required.
- Assist culinary staff with basic food service tasks such as carving meats, light cooking, and food and beverage preparation.
- Assist with steaming, frying, reheating, grilling, garnishing, and food display.
- Perform general cleaning tasks in accordance with accepted food service sanitation standards.
- Provide table service and other related tasks for special events.
- Handle cash appropriately, count cash drawers, and operate the department POS system in accordance with cash handling procedures.
- Work under periods of fast pace and high pressure.
- Punch in and out in accordance with department policy; obtain manager permission to punch in early or stay past scheduled out time.
- Adhere to posted schedule; time off requests will be granted based on business needs and must follow proper procedure.
- Note: No time off requests will be honored for Senior Week, Holidays, Alumni and Parents' Weekend, Commencement, Orientation, Matriculation, or Special Events during the academic year.
Requirements
- Tolerance for long shifts involving standing, walking, lifting, and performing various repetitive tasks.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English to communicate effectively with management, peers, and customers.
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to interact comfortably with customers and peers in a friendly, helpful manner.
- Understanding and ability to perform basic food service sanitation and safety practices.
- Ability to take direction from leadership, understand job requirements, and show initiative in completing customer service tasks.
- Appreciation for teamwork and willingness to collaborate with peers.
- Willingness to be held accountable for the quality of products produced by others, meeting tight deadlines, and contributing to the success of the operation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Broad range of food service experience.
- Mastery of all Dining Service Attendant duties.
- Successful high-volume customer service and hospitality experience.
- Previous cashier experience and familiarity with POS systems.
Pay
$27.91 per hour.
