Dimensional Engineer
Actalent is seeking a Dimensional Engineer to analyze complex dimensional data, ensuring tooling, equipment, and manufacturing processes meet compliance requirements in a highly automated environment.
About the role
This position operates primarily in a production and manufacturing environment (approximately 75% of the time) and partially in an engineering office setting (approximately 25% of the time). The role supports the body shop group within a large-scale automotive manufacturing site, working closely with production, maintenance, suppliers, and skilled trades to resolve dimensional issues and optimize processes. Personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, high-visibility vests, and arm covers, must be worn in production areas. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity based in Wentzville, MO, with strong potential for advancement into other departments or leadership roles.
Responsibilities
- Analyze dimensional data to identify trends, root causes, and areas for improvement in manufacturing processes.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with production, maintenance, suppliers, and other stakeholders to resolve dimensional issues and implement corrective actions.
- Support and deploy quality standards and methodologies, including BIQ IV, the 6 Pillars of Quality, and process control plans.
- Utilize dimensional analysis systems such as GDIS and Dimensional Data Manager to monitor performance and track long-term trends.
- Lead or support projects related to tooling, equipment, and manufacturing processes to achieve and maintain dimensional compliance.
- Work hands-on with skilled trades personnel to support tooling adjustments, equipment improvements, and process optimization.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within a highly automated body shop environment, including projects involving new and upgraded robotic equipment.
- Document findings, recommendations, and corrective actions related to dimensional performance and communicate them clearly to relevant stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a minimum of 4 years of relevant dimensional or manufacturing experience.
- Experience working in a production or manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency with coordinate measuring machines (CMM) and related dimensional measurement tools.
- Strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Experience with 3D scanning and measurement systems, including one or more of the following: CMM, ENOS, Perceptron, FARO, or ScanWorks.
- Ability to interpret and analyze dimensional data to identify trends and root causes.
- Experience supporting or implementing process control plans and other quality methodologies.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including production, maintenance, suppliers, and skilled trades.
Skills
- Experience using dimensional analysis systems such as GDIS and Dimensional Data Manager.
- Familiarity with BIQ IV and the 6 Pillars of Quality.
- Hands-on experience supporting tooling adjustments and equipment improvements in a manufacturing setting.
- Exposure to highly automated manufacturing environments, particularly body shop operations with robotics.
- Demonstrated ability to support projects that enhance dimensional compliance and process optimization.

Pay
The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $44.00 per hour. Individual compensation within this range will depend on qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
