This role is a strategic professional position that stays abreast of developments within the field and contributes to directional strategy by applying expertise to business needs. Recognized as a technical authority, this position requires basic commercial awareness and developed communication and diplomacy skills to guide, influence, and advise colleagues and occasional external customers. The role has a significant impact on the area through complex deliverables and provides advice related to technology or business operations.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the execution and delivery of large-scale efforts or multiple smaller initiatives, serving as a development lead for medium and large projects, including expertise in application development methodologies and standards (analysis, design, coding, testing, debugging, and implementation).
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of client core business functions and supports end-user consultations to identify system function specifications, incorporating them into overall system design.
  • Utilizes comprehensive knowledge of multiple technology areas to achieve technological objectives.
  • Works independently with minimal guidance, making decisions that significantly and measurably impact business goals.
  • Plays a key role in team discussions with Technical Program Managers (TPMs) and engineering managers to assess potential risks to project schedules.
  • Assists in planning and managing application development assignments, including large budgets, cross-functional projects, or multiple projects, while analyzing technical and business risks and their impact.
  • Communicates risks effectively to business owners to enable informed decision-making.
  • Provides guidance on architecturally significant efforts during preplanning, ensuring adherence to principles and best practices before work initiation.
  • Monitors and evaluates Digital roadmaps, including impacts on upcoming journeys.
  • Publishes design review extensions and provides documented guidance aligned with sprint plans and timelines.
  • Participates in the design review board to identify generic patterns and share best practices across the organization.
  • Publishes design patterns across lines of business and domain commonalities.
  • Drives design reviews for Next Gen Architecture (NGA) and Plan of Record (POR) projects, supporting design principles and best practices.
  • Participates in microservices and NGA code reviews.
  • Mentors and coaches Software Development Engineers (SDEs) and their teams.
  • Possesses a comprehensive understanding of the business domain, systems, and products, including their accountabilities, boundaries, limitations, scale factors, and architectural decisions.
  • Provides a long-term perspective for business and technology choices, using technical judgment to vet architecture as required.
  • Directs teams on developing and delivering systems that optimize resource usage, such as hardware, runtime, performance, load, and memory requirements.
  • Responsible for broader design decisions and the development of long-term strategies that influence the development process and standards.
  • Manages Design Reviews for Agile and Plan of Record (POR) projects and oversees Code Reviews for Next Gen Architecture (NGA) projects.
  • Elaborates, promotes, and communicates Design Patterns applicable to NGA architectures and solutions.
  • Champions architectural guidance to SDEs based on best practices and in alignment with CTO guidelines and platform standards.
  • Drives clarity and works independently when business or technical strategies are undefined, providing architectural guidance and conducting design and code reviews.
  • Accountable for overall strategy and driving teams within and outside the organization to deliver expected results.
  • Facilitates discussions with business and technical stakeholders to drive timely decisions and smart trade-offs balancing efforts, delivery timelines, features, and technical constraints.
  • Identifies and removes blockers, finding solutions in challenging situations.
  • Creates delivery plans with clear paths to execution, resolving dependencies between Agile and waterfall efforts.
  • Helps teams organize for delivery while maximizing resources for the greater good of the Digital organization.
  • Applies engineering best practices to the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Elaborates and communicates clear metrics on Design Reviews, Code Reviews, CI/CD, and Design Patterns adoption.
  • Communicates progress, anticipates bottlenecks, provides escalation management, and identifies, assesses, tracks, and mitigates issues/risks at multiple levels.
  • Recognizes discordant views and engages in constructive dialogue to resolve them.
  • Demonstrates the ability to implement continuous improvement and introduce new technology.
  • Shows influence in scrum teams beyond the immediate area of focus.
  • Appropriately assesses risk in business decisions, considering the firm’s reputation and safeguarding Citi, its clients, and assets by adhering to policies, ethical judgment, and compliance with laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of relevant experience in an Apps Development role or senior-level experience in an Enterprise Architecture role with subject matter expertise in one or more areas.
  • Expertise in all aspects of technology, including broader patterns and techniques applicable to Citi’s internal and external cloud platforms (AWS, PCF, Akamai).
  • Ability to lead resources and serve as a functional Subject Matter Expert (SME) across the company through advanced knowledge of algorithms, data structures, distributed systems, and networking.
  • Relevant technology and financial industry skills (e.g., AWS PWS) and a deep understanding of NGA technology, including innovative approaches and new opportunities.
  • Knowledge of automating code quality, code performance, unit testing, and build processing in CI/CD pipelines.

Education

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.

Pay

Full-time salary range: $138,720.00 - $208,080.00.
