Digital Press Operator Apprentice 3rd Shift

About the role
The position is responsible for setting up, adjusting, operating, and maintaining press equipment. This includes performing all make-ready tasks such as hanging plates or installing cylinders, examining plates/cylinders for imperfections, checking correct positioning of images, prepping blankets, adjusting tension and register, and making necessary color corrections or press adjustments prior to production runs to meet quality specifications.
Responsibilities
- Set up, adjust, operate, and maintain press equipment
- Perform make-ready tasks (e.g., hanging plates, installing cylinders, examining plates for imperfections, checking image positioning)
- Make color corrections and press adjustments to meet quality specifications
- Clean, lubricate, and maintain the press, including minor repairs and replacing worn or broken parts
- Perform periodic maintenance as recommended by the manufacturer
- Determine appropriate press usage, settings, and materials for each job
- Adjust packing pressure to achieve proper printing pressure for each job
- Use a micrometer to mount and align printing plates correctly
Requirements
- Thorough knowledge of offset printing procedures, materials, specifications, equipment, and safety requirements
- Ability to read and understand job specifications and press capabilities
- Skill in making precise control settings, adjustments, and performing routine operational maintenance
- Knowledge of routine operational maintenance and minor repairs to equipment
- Understanding of appropriate packing pressure for different job types
- Proficiency in using a micrometer to mount and align printing plates
Schedule
3rd Shift: 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM. Rotating schedule of 3 days one week and 4 days the next week, including working Saturday/Sunday every other week.
Pay
Starting pay range: $20.00/hr – $26.00/hr. Includes a $3/hr 3rd shift premium. The actual rate may vary based on education, skills, experience, proficiency, performance, shift, and location. Overtime and shift differential may also be included in the total compensation package.
