Digital Opportunity Connector (Borderplex Connect) - ACC Member
About the Role
The ACC Member will work to connect residents in the borderplex region with resources and opportunities related to digital fluency training, internet-ready devices, and affordable internet. This work primarily impacts El Paso County (Texas) and Doña Ana County (New Mexico). The selected Member will support programs and communications with target audiences—lower-income households and rural residents—as well as community partners. This service opportunity offers space for creativity, process refinement, and leadership. The Member's "home base" will be in downtown El Paso at one of two locations in the 79901 zip code.
About the Organizations
The American Connection Corps (ACC), an AmeriCorps program of Lead For America (LFA), is a service fellowship aimed at helping communities build digital connectivity to expand opportunity and economic mobility, ranging from healthcare access to quality employment. ACC Members spend a year serving with locally-rooted organizations, addressing the digital divide while gaining hands-on experience and building in-demand skills.
Borderplex Connect is a regional nonprofit committed to closing the digital divide in economically challenged areas of Far West Texas and Southern New Mexico. A coalition of public, private, and nonprofit partners, it serves low-income households and rural communities by providing free digital fluency classes, distributing low-cost devices, advancing affordable internet access, and promoting digital inclusion through education and outreach.
Responsibilities
- Support the digital fluency education team by assisting with class registration, setting up/taking down equipment at host sites, maintaining attendance logs, disseminating participant information, and organizing presentation materials. May also support the Health-Focused Digital Skills class and training of Community Health Workers.
- Conduct outreach efforts, including disseminating information at in-person events (e.g., fairs, conferences) and through digital platforms (e.g., social media, email, webinars). Fluency in English and Spanish is preferred. Outreach will focus on nonpartisan program information, digital skills resources, and available devices.
- Assist with marketing efforts to refine interactions with target audiences, promoting knowledge sharing, partnership support, and program participation. Applicants with skills in graphic design, social media, or mass communication tools are encouraged to apply.
- Provide organizational support to keep programs and initiatives on schedule. Strong multitasking and organizational skills are preferred.
Member activities will supplement—not duplicate or displace—existing staff, volunteer, or worker duties and will be supervised by Borderplex Connect staff.
