This position supports an NIH-funded pediatric clinical research study evaluating telehealth-enabled Family-Centered Rounds (FCR) in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). The Digital Navigator facilitates virtual FCR workflows for families in the clinical trial, including attending virtual FCR encounters, troubleshooting issues in real-time, and advocating for FCR best practices. Using a patient- and family-centered approach, the Digital Navigator assists families in overcoming barriers to participation by assessing technology needs, providing digital literacy and equipment support, facilitating access to resources, coordinating intervention activities, and addressing other needs to optimally engage in FCR and support equitable participation in the study.

Responsibilities

Support and Advocacy Duties (75%):
- Provide patient navigation, health system education, and digital technology support to patients, parents, and families.
- Facilitate virtual Family-Centered Rounds (FCR) workflows for families in the clinical trial.
- Attend virtual FCR encounters to support families and troubleshoot issues in real-time.
- Advocate for FCR best practices.
- Assess technology needs and provide digital literacy and equipment support.
- Facilitate access to resources and coordinate intervention activities.
- Identify and address barriers to equitable participation in the study.
Administrative Duties (20%):
- Document interactions and maintain accurate records using electronic systems.
Collaboration Duties (5%):
- Work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, Health IT Education, research staff, community-based health organizations, and Patient and Provider Advisory Boards.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Experience with databases, medical record systems, Microsoft Word, Excel, and associated software.
Experience working with pediatric patients and families.
Experience documenting interactions and maintaining accurate records using electronic systems.
Experience working at a hospital or university.
Fluency in English and Spanish.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Strong digital literacy skills and ability to learn and support telehealth technologies, mobile devices, and computer applications.
Ability to educate and support patients and families with varying levels of digital literacy.
Knowledge of patient- and family-centered care principles.
Ability to communicate effectively with culturally and linguistically diverse populations.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary clinical and research teams.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accurate documentation.
Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and provide compassionate, patient-centered support.
Experience working individually and as a team member in a diverse workforce.

Preferred Qualifications

Successful completion of the UC Davis Health Spanish Bilingual Skills Assessment Program.
Experience in patient navigation, patient advocacy, community health, healthcare, customer service, or similar patient-facing roles.
Experience supporting telehealth or digital health technologies.
Experience working in a healthcare or clinical research environment.
Experience educating families on telehealth technologies, mobile applications, and computer applications in a hospital setting.

Pay

$26.72 - $41.30 per hour

Schedule

Full-time (100%)
8-hour shifts
Monday–Friday, primarily during weekday morning rounds in the PICU
100% on-site at Ticon II (HSP088)

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco-free campus. This position requires in-person presence in the PICU during weekday morning rounds (Monday–Friday).
