The Video Content Producer is a dynamic visual storyteller responsible for creating high-quality video content across AOPA’s digital platforms, including social networks such as YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok; AOPA.org; newsletters; and magazine digital editions. From conceptualization to final publication, this role handles the full video production process, including story pitching, shooting, editing, and publishing. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, manages multiple projects without compromising creative integrity, and collaborates effectively with team members. A passionate aviation enthusiast, the Video Content Producer delivers compelling content that resonates with AOPA’s audience.

Responsibilities

  • Shooting (30%)
    • Determine the best video, audio, and lighting techniques to shoot high-quality video content in a deadline-driven environment.
    • Collaborate with AOPA stakeholders and follow video best practices to create compelling long- and short-form videos for YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, AOPA.org, newsletters, and magazine digital editions.
    • Maintain proper care of all video, audio, and editing equipment.
    • Participate in air-to-air photo/video shoots.
  • Editing (50%)
    • Determine the best editing, sound, and color correction techniques to publish high-quality video content for appropriate channels.
    • Follow creative direction, maintain brand standards, and respond effectively to feedback.
    • Handle multiple projects of varying complexity while meeting deadlines.
  • Post-Production (10%)
    • Create attention-grabbing titles, descriptions, links, and hashtags to improve YouTube video performance.
    • Organize and archive b-roll in AOPA’s digital asset management system.
    • Collaborate with the AOPA newsletter team to coordinate content.
  • Pitching (10%)
    • Brainstorm and pitch relevant story ideas aligned with AOPA’s priorities and audience interests.
    • Stay current with social media trends and identify real-time trending topics.
    • Network within the aviation community to stay informed of news and potential stories.
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on business and departmental needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in film, television, communication, journalism, or social media videography (or relevant experience).
  • 1 to 3 years of experience conceptualizing, shooting, editing, and publishing videos to various platforms. (Candidates must submit work samples.)
  • Knowledge of professional video cameras, action cameras, lighting and audio equipment, remote equipment, studio equipment, and drones.
  • Advanced editing skills in Adobe Premiere Pro and/or DaVinci Resolve.
  • High proficiency creating long- and short-form videos for YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and other emerging platforms; familiarity with video best practices, asset specifications, restrictions, and content guidelines.
  • Knowledge of the general aviation industry and community.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and shifting priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills to network and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, management, industry representatives, and the public.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Private, sport, or recreational pilot certificate or above.
  • Experience rigging aircraft with cameras.
  • Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate.

Working Conditions

This position is based at AOPA’s Frederick, MD, office and operates in a climate-controlled environment. Typical working hours are 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with a one-hour lunch break. Occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions may occur when attending aviation-related events or assignments, including higher altitudes and confined spaces in general aviation aircraft. Frequent travel (up to 30% of the time) is required for general aviation or industry-related events, utilizing both general aviation and commercial aircraft, as well as road or public transit.

Physical Demands

  • Sit for extended periods while working at a computer or attending meetings.
  • Use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.
  • Communicate effectively via email, phone, and in-person, requiring clear speech, hearing, and vision.
  • Occasionally lift or move items weighing up to 50 pounds, such as video and lighting equipment.
  • Occasionally stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms during normal office activities.
  • Occasionally move, travel, or fly in general aviation aircraft.

Pay

$65,000 – $75,000, depending on education and experience.
