JPI has an exciting opportunity for a Digital Lead (Surveyor) on our OSC team located in San Diego, CA.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Field Surveying & Layout Execution
- Establish and maintain site control points for internal project use across all assigned jobsites
- Coordinate between survey crews and field operations, ensuring accurate communication and implementation of all control points
- Perform form board surveys to document layout conditions and validate geometry prior to concrete placement
- Verify plumbing, electrical, and penetrations (stub ups) prior to slab pours to ensure alignment with plans (Plumbing/Electrical Surveys)
- Coverage direct with field teams/subcontractors onsite to correct layout discrepancies in real time
- Document field conditions and communicate findings to Field Teams and VDC
- Dusty & Construction Technology Integration
- Set and maintain control points at grid line intersections to support Dusty layout workflows
- Coordinate with field teams to ensure layout technology is deployed accurately and effectively
- Horizontal & Vertical Control Management
- Establish, review, and maintain primary and secondary control networks, including control placement and stability
- Perform QA on daily total station setups, including backsight verification and check shots
- Maintain a control register including point data, updates, and change history
- Verify elevations and critical benchmarks if needed
- Quality Assurance & Error Detection
- Identify and resolve layout discrepancies including:
- Coordinate mismatches (grid vs ground, unit inconsistencies)
- Improper control or benchmark usage
- Ensure all survey data used in the field is accurate, validated, and aligned with project requirements
- VDC & Model Coordination
- Serve as the liaison between field teams and VDC to ensure alignment between models and real-world conditions
- Validate survey and layout data in conjunction with VDC, against CAD/BIM models (Civil 3D, Navisworks, etc.)
- Coverage with VDC to ensure the latest drawings and models are being used for layout
- Support model-to-field verification workflows to confirm accuracy and reduce rework
- Communication & Field Coordination
- Act as the primary surveying point of contact for field teams and subcontractors
- Communicate layout issues clearly and proactively to prevent downstream impacts
- Collaborate with superintendents and trades to plan and execute survey-related activities
- Document all recorded information as overlays in Procore
