Digital Health Physician | Part-Time Rheumatologist

About the Role

Novant Health’s Digital Health Virtual Care Network team is seeking a board-certified/board-eligible Part-Time Rheumatologist to support clinical services via telehealth and contribute to the development, standardization, and optimization of digital care delivery across the organization.

This position collaborates with clinical, operational, and technical teams to maintain quality, compliance, and continuity of care. Up to 25% regional day travel between facilities may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize the approved medical practices process in the delivery of all patient care.
  • Provide clinical assessments and use approved medical protocols per policy; recommend appropriate level of clinical care based on clinical judgment and protocols.
  • Review and update patient records, ensuring accuracy at each patient appointment.
  • Provide education to patient families, staff, other health professionals, and the community.
  • Analyze test results and determine appropriate care, including referrals, follow-up visits, and further treatment options.
  • Conduct synchronous and asynchronous telehealth visits, remote patient monitoring oversight, and virtual specialty consult services.
  • Participate in digital care programs across service lines.
  • Remain knowledgeable on current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, or regulatory agency requirements; ensure compliance.

Requirements

  • Active North Carolina medical license, board certification, and current DEA license required; ability to obtain additional state licensure as required.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of medicine.
  • 3 years of experience working in a physician practice setting, emergency room, or urgent care; 1 year working in a telehealth/virtual care setting preferred.

Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in a virtual environment.
  • Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing.
  • Excellent computer skills with the ability to multitask, including navigating and documenting in an EMR while communicating with the patient and using a video and/or telephonic platform.
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with management teams and physicians; team player who contributes to a positive working environment.
  • Demonstrates initiative, ownership, and accountability.
  • Knowledge of the healthcare environment as it relates to technology, physicians, medical group practice, hospitals, ancillary services, and insurance/managed care.
