About the Role

This position involves breaking news, creative content development, assignment desk work, collaboration with local sources, social media management, storytelling in various formats, and leveraging audience data.

Responsibilities

• Confirming facts and publishing breaking news stories quickly and accurately
• Developing unique, attention-grabbing content for the web
• Making phone calls to local agencies and businesses, coordinating crew locations, and tuning in live shots for on-air broadcasts
• Collaborating with local and regional sources to find the best angles for the audience
• Multitasking to take on new challenges as the news cycle evolves
• Promoting and sharing stories across social platforms and engaging directly with the audience
• Telling stories in multiple formats including writing, sourcing photos and videos, and using storytelling techniques on various channels
• Using insights from data to gauge audience interest and preferences

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
• At least 2 years of experience producing digital content for the web
• A strong knowledge of Associated Press (AP) style

Qualifications

• Excellent teamwork skills
• Adaptable to changing priorities and learning new tools or approaches
• Ability to meet deadlines even under pressure
• Proficiency in WordPress and SEO, Akta, or the Adobe Suite (bonus points)
• Flexibility to work mornings, nights, and weekends as needed
