About the role
SCELC is seeking an experienced and visionary Digital Collections Program Manager to lead the development of new consortial digital collections initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and manage SCELC-wide digital collections programs in collaboration with SCELC libraries and strategic partners.
- Support program participant libraries' digital special collections projects within JSTOR Digital Stewardship Services, Tiers 1-3.
- Establish and promote program documentation and best practices for metadata, interoperability, digital asset management, digitization, technical standards, and discoverability.
- Build and sustain partnerships with vendors (e.g., JSTOR), technology providers, and other consortia.
- Track and evaluate emerging trends in digital scholarship, linked data, AI, and other technologies that support all facets of digital collections management.
- Support grant development, reporting, and assessment related to digital collections programs.
- Establish and serve as SCELC co-chair of a new Digital Collections Steering Committee composed of SCELC program participants.
Requirements
- ALA-accredited graduate degree in library or information science.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working with digital collections or institutional repositories in an academic or research library setting.
- Demonstrated experience with one or more digital collections platforms (e.g., JSTOR, CONTENTdm, DSpace, etc.), including metadata standards (e.g., Dublin Core, MODS, METS), ingest and migration workflows, digital asset management, and digitization best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and manage large-scale projects and excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Experience developing workflows, writing documentation, and providing support to archivists and librarians.
- Strong understanding of discovery, interoperability, and access mechanisms for digital assets.
- Knowledge of best practices and standards related to special collections and archives, digital asset management, and digital archiving.
- Proven ability to lead complex, collaborative projects and to work with diverse stakeholders.
- Experience with vendor and partner relations, including working with platforms like JSTOR, ArchivesSpace, or other digital scholarly content aggregators and software hosting providers.
- Knowledge of applying emerging technology to digital collections, such as AI and metadata automation.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience with ArchivesSpace, cataloging, and description standards (e.g., EADs, DACS) for special collections and archives.

The SCELC offers a competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with experience and location. This is an exempt full-time remote position with flexible scheduling and a commitment to work-life balance. Salary is negotiable, with the starting range expected to be between $75,000 and $82,000.
