About the role

This employee develops and coordinates special public health and wellness programs within the Health Department. Employee coordinates assigned activities with other divisions, outside agencies, and the general public and provides nutrition counseling and education for clientele.

Responsibilities

  • Operates appropriate computer equipment; uses properly all related hardware and software.
  • Operates assigned vehicle in the course of duty.
  • Interprets and explains nutrition and dietary care policies and procedures.
  • Counsels patients on a variety of health related issues.
  • Provides responsible nutrition and dietetic health education.
  • Responds to requests and inquiries from the general public.
  • Works independently in the absence of supervision.
  • Prepares clear and concise reports.
  • Communicates clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Requirements

  • Knowledge Of Principles and practices of dietetics and nutrition.
  • Basic principles of letter writing and report preparation.
  • Principles and procedures of record keeping.
  • English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Food preparation, storage, and handling.
  • Community resources related to nutrition and social services.
  • Operational characteristics, services, and activities of a nutrition/dietetic program.
  • Modern and complex principles and practices of nutrition and dietetics.
  • Methods and techniques of public speaking.
  • Interviewing and counseling techniques.
  • Pertinent federal, state, and local health laws, codes, and regulations.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in health, nutrition, dietetics, or a related field.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Valid State of Ohio Board of Dietitians License or be RD eligible and must have registration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics by the date of hire.
