Higher Call Nursing Center is seeking an energetic Dietary Cook to join our team in Quapaw, OK.
About the Role
Prepare food in accordance with prescribed resident diet specifications, facility procedures, and dietary and sanitary regulations under the supervision of the Dietary Manager. Promote an atmosphere of teamwork and hospitality for residents.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook resident meals in quantities according to menu and number of persons served.
- Prepare meals according to proper methods and cooking temperatures for best utilization and yield of meats and other foods.
- Clean work area and equipment in accordance with sanitation requirements.
- Taste, smell, and observe all foods prepared to confirm alignment with recipes, good taste, and appetizing appearance.
- Consistently prepare meals on time to meet serving schedules.
- Serve food according to dietary guidelines, checking each tray for completeness and accuracy.
- Monitor portion control guidelines for individual residents to prevent food waste.
- Prepare foods for facility personnel, families, visitors, and for special occasions and events as directed.
- Prepare and serve food and meals in accordance with planned menus, diet plans, recipes, portion, and temperature control procedures.
- Inspect special diet trays to assure the correct diet is served to the resident.
- Attend in-service education programs to meet facility educational requirements.
- Be familiar with Standard Precautions, Exposure Control Plan, Fire Drill & Evacuation Procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality of resident and facility records/information.
- Protect residents from neglect, mistreatment, and abuse, and safeguard their personal property.
Requirements
- Experience in preparing foods in large quantities.
- Organized and detailed in work performance.
- Good communication skills with excellent self-discipline and patience.
- Genuine caring for and interest in elderly and disabled people in a nursing facility.
- Comply with Residents' Rights and Facility Policies and Procedures.
Working Conditions
- Subject to frustrations due to frequent interruptions and fast-paced decision-making.
- Involved with residents, personnel, visitors, and government agencies under various conditions.
- May work beyond normal duty hours, weekends, or in other positions temporarily when necessary.
- Subject to call-back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster).
- Subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.
- May handle and be exposed to hazardous chemicals.
Physical and Sensory Requirements
- Assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
- Meet general health requirements set by facility policies, including medical and physical examinations.
- Sitting: 1-2 hours per 8-hour shift (alternates frequently to walking).
- Walking: 1-2 hours per 8-hour shift (alternates frequently to standing and occasionally to sitting).
- Standing: 5-7 hours per 8-hour shift (alternates frequently to walking).
Lifting Requirements
- 1-10 lbs: Constantly (pots, pans, food ingredients, utensils).
- 11-20 lbs: Occasionally (pots, pans, food ingredients).
- 21-35 lbs: Rarely (boxes of supplies, stock, pans with food).
- 36-50 lbs: Rarely (pots and pans with food, bulk food items).
- 51-75 lbs: Rarely (equipment, boxes of supplies, stock).
Carrying Requirements
- 1-10 lbs: Constantly (pots, pans, food ingredients, utensils).
