Dietary Assistant Part-Time

Pay range: $17.48-$17.50 (Board of Education rate), part-time.

About the Role

Dietary Aide assignments are determined by the needs of the shift. You will report to the Cook and Dietary Supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Learn food-service routine quickly.
• Set up meal trays.
• Strip down returned trays and wash dishes.
• Assist with serving meals.
• Check and record chlorine concentration and water temperature of the dishwashing machine at the start of each shift.
• Monitor dishwasher water temperatures during cycles.
• Operate the dishwasher.
• Prepare nourishments and snacks.
• Sweep and mop the kitchen.
• Carry out trash and garbage.
• Store groceries safely, neatly, and cleanly.
• Leave the kitchen clean and sanitary; assist the cook or dietary supervisor as needed.
• Clean work surfaces and refrigerators.
• Maintain floors (sweep, mop).
• Participate in orientation and ongoing training of dietary staff.
• Work cooperatively with personnel in all departments.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read technical procedures and follow recipes.
• Ability to present information and respond to questions from managers and employees.
• Basic math skills (fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions).
• Problem-solving ability.
• Ability to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Must obtain and maintain a food handler’s certificate.

Physical Demands

• Frequent standing, walking, reaching, pushing/pulling, talking, hearing, tasting, and smelling.
• Occasional sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
• Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Visual abilities: close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception; ability to adjust focus.
