About the Role
Assists with food preparation in accordance with established procedural guidelines, and as directed by the Dietary Manager or supervisor. Follows facility procedures for storing, serving, and transporting food and supplies. Responsible for cleaning, sanitizing, and proper maintenance of equipment.
Responsibilities
- Follows diet orders and NPO diet orders.
- Assists cook in preparing meals, desserts, and/or snacks for patients/residents (e.g., salads, desserts, and other dishes).
- Uses proper food handling processes, procedures, and policies.
- Delivers trays to patients/residents on halls and serves meals in the dining area, including food and beverages.
- Prepares between-meal nourishments (e.g., sandwiches) and serves them in accordance with procedural guidelines.
- Offers menu substitutions and records them as required.
- Follows procedures for serving partner meals.
- Communicates warmly and professionally with patients/residents, family members, and visitors, addressing concerns with a helpful and caring demeanor.
- Cleans tables in the dining area after each meal and maintains a clean work area, including sweeping and mopping.
- Removes garbage from kitchen areas and hoses out garbage containers.
- Complies with infection control policies in the work area.
- Scrapes, washes, and sanitizes dishes, pots, and pans.
- Records freezer and walk-in refrigerator temperatures as per established procedures.
- Checks stock and stores items appropriately according to facility guidelines.
- Sets up and performs tray line service.
- Properly stores leftovers and opened food.
- Makes coffee and tea as requested.
- Cleans kitchen equipment (e.g., carts, tables, counters, ice machine, blender, mixer, meat slicer, freezer, refrigerator, stove, steamer, garbage disposal, dish machine, coffee/tea maker, steam table).
- Operates kitchen equipment (e.g., coffee & tea maker, dish machine, garbage disposal, mixer, blender, meat slicer, steamer).
- Follows standardized recipes and uses serving equipment (e.g., ladle, spoon, scoops).
- Checks and records water temperature (dishwasher, pot and pan sink, etc.).
- Checks dishwasher sanitizer levels with sanitizer strips and monitors chemical levels, replacing as needed.
- Participates in center/agency surveys (e.g., Licensure/JCAHO) and required reports.
- Attends continuing educational programs to maintain licensure/certification and stay updated on industry changes.
- Attends mandatory in-services.
- Honors patients/residents’ rights to fair treatment, self-determination, privacy, and property.
- Complies with corporate compliance programs and reports occupational hazards (e.g., exposure to blood and body fluids).
- Follows established safety regulations, including fire protection, infection control, and equipment safety procedures.
Requirements
- Sufficient education to demonstrate functional literacy.
- No prior experience required; on-the-job training provided.
Qualifications (Preferred)
- Previous food service and/or food preparation experience.
- Long-term care dietary experience.
Schedule
Part-time, variable shift.
