Diesel Technician Trainee

We are seeking highly driven, mechanically‑inclined individuals passionate about developing a career as a Heavy Equipment or Electric Power Generation technician to join the Milton CAT Diesel Technician Trainee program. The program begins in January 2027, with applications accepted now through mid‑November and review starting in October. This is a paid training program.

Responsibilities

• Complete 2,000 hours of intensive training over 12 months, including 1,600 hours of hands‑on, on‑the‑job training and 450 hours of instructor‑led and computer‑based learning.
• Rotate through a variety of technical areas within our facilities, working elbow‑to‑elbow with experienced Caterpillar technicians.
• Travel regionally every other month to attend on‑site orientations and training classes at our corporate facility in Massachusetts.
• All company‑based training is paid.
• Participate in an interview process after submitting an online application; acceptance is limited and not guaranteed.
• Upon successful completion, be considered for a full‑time technician position at any Milton CAT or Milton Rents location.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1+ years of experience servicing heavy equipment, or equivalent education in automotive/diesel/related mechanical vocational program (strongly preferred).
• Strong adherence to safety, customer service, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lb unassisted.
• Solid mechanical aptitude with a desire to learn and adapt.
• Proficiency with computer technology (laptop and related software systems).
• Clean and valid driver’s license.

Pay

Starting pay rate for trainees is $28.22 per hour. The training program is fully paid.
