Responsibilities
- Perform diesel service and intermediate-level mechanical repairs including brakes, suspension, steering components, belts, hoses, batteries, and basic drivability concerns.
- C Conduct commercial tire services including mounting, dismounting, balancing, repairing, rotating, and replacing tires on diesel trucks, trailers, and applicable fleet equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance services such as oil changes, fluid inspections, filter replacements, and multi-point vehicle inspections.
- Diagnose mechanical and tire-related issues using visual inspections, service documentation, and basic diagnostic tools.
- Accurately document repairs, labor, and parts usage in work orders or electronic maintenance systems.
- Inspect vehicles and equipment for safety concerns and report deficiencies to shop leadership promptly.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with company safety standards and OSHA regulations.
- Assist with inventory control related to tires, parts, tools, and shop supplies.
- Clock in/out system and other administrative tasks as needed.
- Coordinate with service writers, shop management, and operations staff to support efficient workflow and job prioritization.
- Follow all environmental, safety, and operational policies and procedures.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts related to shop efficiency, service quality, and safety performance.
- Perform additional duties and projects as assigned based on operational needs.
Qualifications/Knowledge/Critical Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 2–4 years of hands-on diesel service or heavy-duty vehicle maintenance experience.
- Demonstrated experience with commercial tire service and repair.
- Working knowledge of diesel vehicle systems including braking, suspension, steering, and preventative maintenance.
- Ability to safely operate tire machines, balancers, hand tools, power tools, and standard shop equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with attention to detail and quality workmanship.
- Ability to read and follow work orders, service procedures, and safety guidelines.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively in a team environment.
- Reliable attendance, strong work ethic, and professional attitude.
- Valid driver’s license required; clean driving record preferred.
- ASE certifications, air brake knowledge, or CDL experience are a plus but not required.
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors
- Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, and use hands and arms for extended periods.
- Frequently required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
- Work is performed in a shop and yard environment with exposure to noise, dust, grease, weather conditions, and industrial equipment.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Compensation
The Diesel Service Technician position offers an hourly compensation range of $25.00 to $45.00 per hour, dependent upon experience, skill level, and qualifications.
