Diesel Mechanic/Technician I - Experienced
About the Role

As an experienced Technician at Penske, you’ll perform preventative maintenance and repairs of all levels on the newest and best-maintained fleet of vehicles in the industry. You’ll help our customers keep their vehicles in shape and on the road. As a Technician I, you are a respected, experienced lead at your location—a master technician. You’ll set an example, informally mentor others, and learn from your manager while working independently on major and minor repairs, diagnosing problems through road tests, and completing maintenance tasks.
Responsibilities
- Ensure vehicles are maintained and safe for our customers
- Perform preventive maintenance services on truck and trailer equipment with little or no supervision and in a timely manner
- Repair and troubleshoot major components such as engines, transmissions, and differentials, including replacing complete assemblies, turbochargers, fuel system components, etc.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area
- Use Penske’s tools and technologies to log, research, and complete repairs, including basic vehicle diagnostics
- Learn new skills through Penske’s technician training
- Work on other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications
- 6 years of practical experience with truck and tractor-trailer maintenance
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred; vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair preferred
- Specialized training and experience in diagnosing/troubleshooting major components (engines, transmissions, differentials), OEM training courses, ASE Certification, and 608/609 certifications (preferred)
- Experience using tools of the trade, including welding equipment, diagnostic equipment, and hand and power tools
- Valid driver’s license required, CDL preferred
- Problem-solving skills
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work well as part of a team
- Willingness to work in non-climate-controlled conditions
- Basic computer skills
