About the role
As an experienced Technician at Penske, you’ll perform preventative maintenance and repairs of all levels on the newest and best maintained fleet of vehicles in the industry. You will help customers keep their vehicles in shape and on the road. As a Technician I, you are a respected, experienced lead at your location—a master technician. You set an example and informally mentor others while learning from your manager. You are trusted to work independently while doing major and minor repairs, performing road tests to diagnose problems, and completing maintenance tasks.

Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance services on truck and trailer equipment with little or no supervision and in a timely manner
- Repair and troubleshoot major components such as engines, transmissions, differentials, including replacing complete assemblies, turbochargers, fuel system components, etc.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area
- Use Penske’s tools and technologies to log, research, and complete repairs, including basic vehicle diagnostics
- Learn new skills through Penske’s technician training
- Work on other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor
- Understand and comply with specific instructions, guidelines, rules, regulations, or other information established by Penske management
- Perform all work adhering to DOT, OSHA, and all Penske safety and maintenance policies, including correct selection and use of appropriate tools, PPE, machine guarding, and established best safety practices
Requirements
- 6 years of practical experience with truck and tractor-trailer maintenance
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred; vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair preferred
- Specialized training and experience in the diagnosis/troubleshooting of major components (engines, transmissions, differentials), OEM training courses, ASE Certification, and 608/609 certifications (preferred)
- Experienced using all tools of the trade (including welding equipment, diagnostic equipment, and hand and power tools)
- Valid driver’s license required, CDL preferred
- Ability to solve problems and work well as part of a team
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Willingness to work in non-climate-controlled conditions
- Basic computer skills
- Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job
- Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
- Willingness to travel as necessary within the district (customers’ yards, close geographical area, and training sites)
- Complete Penske employment application, submit to a background screening (including criminal checks, past employment, and education), and pass a drug screening
Physical Requirements
- Frequent movement, standing, walking, climbing, bending, and sitting for extended periods
- Routine and daily use of hands to grasp, reach, touch, handle, or operate tools and controls
- Ability to work safely at heights using ladders and elevated working platforms
- Ability to work safely in all weather conditions
- Ability to see and hear to safely navigate the work environment with frequent movement of large trucks
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs/23 kg and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 lbs/45 kg
- Ability to push/pull truck tires on a regular basis that exceed 100 pounds

Pay
$32.25 per hour
Shift differentials: Second shift start times after 11 am are eligible for $2.50 per hour; third shift start times after 9 pm are eligible for $3.50 per hour.
