Ryder is hiring a Senior Level Diesel Technician in Somerset, PA — offering weekly pay, excellent benefits, and a rewarding career maintaining heavy-duty vehicles.

Pay

  • Hourly rate: $31.80 per hour
  • Certification Bonus: $100 for each new ASE certification obtained, up to $700
  • Quarterly Bonus: Up to $500 every quarter (four times per year)
  • Sign-On Bonus: $1,250 at 30 days and $1,250 at 90 days
  • Yearly merit pay increases
  • Top Tech Competition: Earn $250 – $50,000 per year

Schedule

  • Tuesday – Saturday
  • Second Shift: Monday – Friday, 3:30 pm – 12:00 am
  • Rotating Saturday: 6:00 am – 2:00 pm

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
  • Vocational or technical certification (preferred)
  • Post-secondary degree or technical certifications (preferred)
  • Basic tools (required)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy-duty and medium-duty equipment
  • Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including:
    • Routine preventative maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work)
    • Basic diagnostics and repairs (AC and electrical systems)
  • Three or more years of relevant work experience (preferred)
  • Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A (preferred; must obtain within 6 months of hire)
  • All other certifications as required by location
  • Knowledge of computer skills: PC, Windows, mouse, etc.
  • Must pass:
    • Ryder drug test
    • DOT physical
    • Ryder road test
    • Ryder background and motor vehicle check (including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years)

Responsibilities

  • Performs vehicle maintenance and repair duties, including:
    • Standard vehicle maintenance
    • Preventative maintenance
    • Diagnosing complex mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic computers
    • Completing complex and detailed mechanical inspections and repairs with minimal supervision
    • Replacing defective components as instructed
  • Works unsupervised on most tasks.
  • Performs facility maintenance duties.
  • Interacts with customers/drivers to determine the nature of complaints.
  • Utilizes key functions of Shop Management System and electronic documentation.
  • Works in accordance with all federal, provincial, and corporate compliance guidelines (e.g., safety, DOT).
  • Acts as a mentor for Tech 1 and Tech 2 levels.
  • Demonstrates ability to access and use internal and external maintenance documents.
  • Completes additional training:
    • SBTIII trained within 180 days (SBT220)
    • Completes 2 OEM online diagnostic scan tool software courses (predominant OEM of fleet mix within 365 days)
  • Provides other support duties as required, including:
    • Service Island support
    • Additional operational tasks as needed
