Duties and Responsibilities
- Operates and monitors die cast machines as well as ancillary equipment such as mini vibe, vacuum, jet cooling, etc.
- Reviews machine settings daily and compares settings to process setup sheets to ensure congruency. Makes adjustments as necessary, notifies supervisor and records on process change sheets.
- Completes appropriate paperwork through the shift such as start up checklists, gap sheets, run logs, etc.
- Inspects die cast machines, trim presses and the entire work area for any unsafe conditions, fixing unsafe conditions within scope/ability and reporting any unrepairable conditions immediately to the supervisor or maintenance department.
- Maintains and improves quality and production standards conducting trim press and die cast machine quality audits and following hourly quality part check requirements, communicating quality or operation concerns as needed.
- Collaborates with QA to check for part porosity as needed and make appropriate adjustments.
- Affords assistance to the SMED team in setting up die cast trim dies to meet production schedules.
- Affords assistance to the SMED team in performing die changes, testing of die cast and trim dies using standard set up processes and procedures per the process sheets.
- Affords assistance to the SMED team in tool set up, machine start up and first piece approval before assigning the trim press over to production associates.
- Maintains and improves quality and production standards conducting trim press and die cast machine quality audits and following hourly quality part check requirements, communicating quality or operation concerns as needed.
- Supports production associates in quality requirement understanding, assists with ERP questions and machine or ancillary equipment issues/breakdowns and steps in to help associates when behind.
- Reports concerns with production associates not following quality or productivity standards.
- Affords assistance with production associate breaks as needed.
- Actively pursues higher level of die cast training to develop level of expertise in assigned work area.
Required Skills, Education and Experience
- Forklift operator and overhead crane licensure/certification required (will train on the job).
- Lockout Tagout Authorized Personnel training/licensure required (will train on the job).
- Electrical awareness training required (will train on the job).
- Prior experience or knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics and electrical preferred.
- Must possess basic computer skills with ability to develop an intermediate level.
- Must be able to read, write, understand and follow written and oral instructions and utilize effective communication when items are not clear.
- Must possess the ability to present effective, respectful and tactful communication with fellow associates, supervisors, etc.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions concerning above job duties when warranted.
