Position Highlights

Requirements

  • Authorization to work in the U.S. permanently, without sponsorship.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Physicians must have completed residency training.
  • Diagnostic Radiology Board-eligible or board-certified and current with MOC, ACGME DR/IR certified or IR fellowship-trained diagnostic and interventional radiologist.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • Previous experience with the VA is a plus.

What Does a Typical Day Look Like?

  • Estimated 90% of the time is involved in direct patient care.
  • Review imaging requests for appropriateness and provide appropriate protocols and oversight to radiology technologists.
  • Protocol examinations and prescribe contrast agents, medications, and radiation doses in accordance with professional industry standards and ACR guidelines.
  • Communicate imaging protocols to radiology technologists and imaging staff.
  • Adhere to ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles in all radiation-related activities.
  • Provide interpretations of diagnostic imaging studies within the following turnaround times in the approved reporting system: STAT studies within one (1) hour; ASAP studies within eight (8) hours; Routine studies within forty-eight (48) hours. Communicate critical, urgent, and unexpected findings in accordance with departmental policies.
  • Identify and report poor image quality or equipment performance using appropriate facility reporting channels.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary conferences and clinical consultations.
