About the role
Responsible for responding to requests for ALS intervention and providing emergency medical care in the pre-hospital environment according to Paramedic Protocols and Policies approved by South Shore Health and the ALS system Medical Director. Performs duties related to the provision of care and development of the community EMS system, including assisting with Diagnostic Imaging Department emergent events.
Responsibilities
- Responds to requests for paramedic services from area departments in a timely and safe manner, following Massachusetts emergency-driving laws.
- Completes all required documentation and records accurately, including run reports, trip logs, patient charges, refusals, and narcotics sign-off.
- Ensures vehicle and equipment are ready for response at all times; restocks equipment within 30 minutes following a run and reports damaged or unsafe equipment.
- Renders pre-hospital medical care at the paramedic level, performing complete and accurate patient assessments and adhering to Region IV treatment protocols.
- Provides accurate, concise radio reports and maintains knowledge of local geography.
- Performs assigned duties in the emergency department under ED physician supervision, including 12-Lead EKGs, blood draws, and IV insertions.
- Acts as a team leader during emergency responses, directing EMTs and other personnel on scene.
- Maintains vehicle and equipment according to policy, preventing loss or damage.
- Pursues professional growth through new Paramedicine technology, monthly staff meetings, and skill logs.
- Participates in community activities to improve public understanding of the EMS system and represents South Shore Health professionally.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Prior experience as a provider of pre-hospital care in an emergency setting; critical care experience preferred.
- Valid Driver’s License with acceptable motor vehicle driving record (verified at hire and annually).
- Required certifications:
- Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P) – Massachusetts DPH
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – AHA
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA
- Preferred (not required) certifications:
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – AHA
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- ACLS/BLS Instructor – AHA
Pay
Pay Range: $25.25 – $35.36 per hour
