About the role
This position is part of the Diagnostic Imaging team at TFH and IVCH, responsible for effective communication and coordination within the department.
Responsibilities
- Communicates with patients, physicians, radiologists, and hospital staff to ensure patient/customer satisfaction.
- Works on multiple hospital programs including EPIC/MERCY, ENTERPRISE (I-SITE), MED ONC MANAGER (ARIA), NUANCE POWERSCRIBE 360, EPIC/OCHIN, EMIX, and SCHEDULE ANYWHERE.
- Follows up with patients and staff regarding requests for additional information or pre-visit tests.
- Confirms the completeness and accuracy of ordered procedures according to protocol.
- Handles a high volume of calls, prioritizing urgency and correctly routing calls or taking appropriate messages.
- Transcribes not-on-staff physicians' orders into Epic and amends incorrect orders from on-staff physicians.
- Schedules and coordinates emergent (STAT) outpatients, ER, and inpatients, ensuring adherence to procedure protocol.
- Serves as the primary resource for scheduling complex procedures and handling scheduling questions.
- Supports the Cancer Center and other physician offices by importing images and reports for review.
- Supports the Radiologist with exam changes, special requests, and other administrative tasks.
- Maintains and updates knowledge about insurance, healthcare coverage, and patient identification.
- Processes requests for release of information in accordance with HIPAA and Privacy Law standards.
- Greets visitors and patients, directing them to appropriate personnel and providing courteous service.
- Interviews patients or representatives to obtain and record required information.
- Ensures patient has prior authorization and collects accurate insurance and contact information during scheduling calls.
- Collaborates with Health Information Management (HIM) on subpoenas and report requests.
- Works collaboratively with other departments to ensure a high-quality patient experience.
Qualifications
- No formal education requirement, but six months of Diagnostic Imaging department experience and/or training is preferred.
- Six months to one year of relevant experience is required.
- A BLS certification is required, and employees will be enrolled in the RQI Basic Life Support (BLS) Entry or Prep Curriculum within six months of hire.
