About the role

This position provides departmental support in the areas of front desk, scheduling, and managing the library of digital images in accordance with departmental policies and needs. The role projects a professional image through appearance, confidence, knowledge, and organization of work.

Responsibilities

  • Work at the Diagnostic Imaging front desk:
    • Greet and check in patients.
    • Assist in obtaining and reviewing physician orders, inputting orders for procedures, compiling patient cases for radiologist review, and patient data entry.
    • Receive and sort incoming mail/faxes for distribution.
    • Ensure the work area is neat and orderly.
    • Run and print reports needed for daily department schedules.
    • Obtain previous outside imaging for scheduled procedures the day before exams.
    • Ensure forms, reports, and computer records are accurate and completed according to specific guidelines.
    • Log patients into the computer system and prepare appropriate paperwork.
    • Notify appropriate modality/department.
  • Prepare patients for exams under the guidance of technologists by providing necessary materials and instructions.
  • Provide prescreening paperwork for contrast allergies to patients prior to exams.
  • Deliver patient paperwork to the technologist prior to the exam for review.
  • Manage the library of digital images and act as a liaison with patient care providers and the picture archival communication system (PACS).
  • Assist users/leaders in problem-solving and staff in developing computer skills related to archive systems.
  • Assist physicians in retrieving their patients’ archived data.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with current techniques and technologies related to work assignments.
  • Respond to internal/external release of information requests and release patient records/images in accordance with confidentiality laws.
  • Process subpoenas and attorney requests for images.
  • Communicate effectively under sensitive and confidential situations.
  • Deliver images to requesting parties in a timely manner.
  • Retrieve and validate images for distribution via printing.
  • Locate and print Diagnostic Imaging films and/or download images to disc via the PACS digital computer system for approved personnel and patients.
  • Accurately retrieve images from the archive manager, adjust window levels for appropriate contrast/brightness, and format prior to printing.
  • Transport patients safely and in a timely manner as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 6 months of experience in a customer service-oriented environment and/or scheduling and/or front office required (1 year preferred).

Qualifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at date of hire or within 30 days from date of hire. Will not perform any duties related to transporting patients alone until BCLS card is obtained. Staff at Deer Valley Medical Center and John C. Lincoln Medical Center require BCLS due to transporter duties.
