Job Summary
The Diabetes Educator is a licensed health care professional responsible and accountable for providing diabetes education in the outpatient settings and through community and professional education services.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from accredited program for specific field of health care professional (Dietitian)
- Current state licensure
- Minimum of three years clinical experience
- Additional diabetes education experience highly preferred (inpatient and/or outpatient setting)
- Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) strongly preferred
- Applicants are encouraged to successfully complete the Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist certification examination within 6 months of obtaining the required experience hours and not to exceed 2 years from date of hire
- Current BLS certification through any International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses such as but not limited to: Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association, and American Red Cross
- The ILCOR course must include a manikin check off
- Certification in Lifestyle Management, Stress Management or Weight Management is encouraged
Physical Demands
- Must possess good physical health
- Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time
- Lifting at least 20 pounds is required
- Must be able to work with a moderate level of noise
- Physical Effort required: Constant (67%-100%) - talking, hearing, seeing
- Frequently (34%-66%) - reaching
- Occasionally (1%-33%) - lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, climbing (stairs, ladders, etc.), balancing, stooping, crouching, handling/feeling
