DevOps Engineer
About The Role
We are seeking a talented and experienced Principal DevOps Engineer / Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to lead and drive the DevOps and SRE initiatives for our multi-tenant SaaS platform. The Principal DevOps Engineer will be instrumental in designing our engineering platform, establishing standards, and developing automation processes that enable product teams to build, test, and deploy independently and securely. This role is highly hands-on and influential, working closely with engineering teams to create self-service pipelines and infrastructure that production teams can operate confidently.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in DevOps or Platform Engineering, including at least 5 years in a senior or lead capacity.
- 3+ years of designing and operating solutions on AWS cloud services and architecture.
- Strong software engineering background with over 5 years of hands-on development experience in Python, Java, or similar languages.
- Proven expertise in architecting, building, and deploying microservices within distributed, production environments.
- 2+ years of practical experience with GitHub Enterprise, including Actions and branch rulesets.
- Experience in designing and evolving microservices architectures for independent deployability and scalability.
- Extensive experience in establishing large-scale CI/CD and release engineering infrastructure.
- Proficiency in enforcing repository standards, naming conventions, and governance policies across engineering teams.
- Expertise in Terraform for infrastructure as code at scale, with practical knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes for containerization and orchestration.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of providing technical leadership and collaborating effectively across diverse teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
- AWS Certified DevOps Engineer or Solutions Architect certification.
- Experience with developer platform tools such as Backstage for service catalogs.
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps for work management.
- Experience implementing DORA metrics and other DevOps performance indicators.
Responsibilities
- Design and evolve a modern DevOps platform that empowers engineering teams to manage their build, test, and deployment workflows end-to-end with minimal dependencies.
- Build and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines using tools like GitHub Actions or similar, focusing on self-service capabilities and repeatability for microservices, data workloads, and batch jobs.
- Define, implement, and enforce repository and branching standards, code quality practices, and automation patterns across multiple engineering squads.
- Architect and implement infrastructure as code solutions utilizing AWS CDK and Terraform to ensure consistent, auditable, and scalable environment provisioning.
- Collaborate with production and IT operations teams by providing automated deployment workflows and infrastructure patterns, enabling them to operate confidently without direct intervention in production environments.
- Partner with architects and senior engineers to set strategic technical directions, focusing on resiliency, security, and scalability of the platform.
- Lead initiatives around observability and reliability by developing dashboards, alerts, logs, and traces to provide comprehensive operational insights for production services.
- Create clear documentation, reference implementations, and reusable templates to accelerate team adoption of best practices and common patterns.
- Mentor and coach engineers through pairing, code reviews, and design reviews to elevate DevOps maturity across teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and learning.
