DEVELOPMENTAL THERAPIST - EARLY LEARNING PARTNERSHIPS
About the Role
The Developmental Therapist supports Early Learning programs (serving children birth to age 5) in St. Joseph County by integrating therapeutic support strategies into classrooms, documenting strategies modeled for teachers, and providing training on delays, disabilities, and challenging behaviors to teachers and families. This role also administers developmental screenings as needed.
Additionally, the Developmental Therapist provides Early Intervention Therapies as a First Steps Developmental Therapist (birth to age 3), implementing therapeutic support in the child’s home or natural environment. The therapist plans, implements, evaluates, and documents each child's therapeutic plan in collaboration with the child’s parent or guardian during home visits.

Responsibilities
- Devise and implement teaching strategies compatible with Early Learning Programs and individual child/family needs based on developmental status.
- Facilitate the growth of caregivers (teachers, parents, guardians) by providing resources and support to meet each child’s goals.
- Support teachers and children in Early Learning Program classrooms.
- Provide caregivers with a developmental model of learning to clarify and address children’s needs.
- Consult with community service providers serving children supported by LOGAN.
- Prepare, in collaboration with parents and agencies, an Individualized Family Service Plan addressing family and child developmental needs.
- Evaluate and record each child’s programming, recommending curriculum enhancements or alternative placements as needed.
- Report evaluations using developmental checklists, quarterly reviews, and family assessment tools per agency standards.
- Communicate special needs of the child or family to appropriate staff or professionals.
- Suggest expanded services or innovative programs to meet unmet client needs.
- Ensure the health and safety of children served at all times.
- Serve as a role model and advocate for children’s rights.
- Participate in required training and complete all documentation on time.
- Respect confidentiality and cultural diversity of children, families, and Early Learning Programs.
- Provide evaluations in various settings to assess program and child needs.
- Develop appropriate outcomes for Individual Family Service Plans with First Steps staff and community partners.
- Provide written reports and programs to families, professionals, teachers, and community partners following First Steps guidelines.
- Plan trainings, instructional activities, and community activities as needed.
- Serve on LOGAN committees addressing internal agency operations when requested.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in child development, special education, early childhood education, or nursing, per Indiana First Steps Program requirements.
- One year of experience serving children ages 0–3 is preferred.
- One year of experience in infant/toddler classrooms in an Early Learning Program is preferred but not required.
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff, supervisors, and agency personnel.
- Ability to establish and maintain relationships with community partners, teachers, children, and families.
- Ability to conduct developmental screenings and demonstrate activities/strategies to families or caregivers.
- Creativity in exploring new and innovative ideas.
- Ability to work independently and use sound judgment.
- Ability to maintain organized and timely paperwork.
- Ability to lift children up to 5 years old (up to 55 pounds) with adaptive equipment.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Licensed in Indiana as a First Steps Provider.
- Willingness to complete all required training (e.g., screenings, Early Learning Program curriculums, professional development).
