Developmental Technician, Facility Services HVAC/R
About the role
Under supervision, you will complete HVAC/R work assignments, perform preventive maintenance and repairs, and assist with the service and operation of company property. This role involves collaborating with management, coworkers, customers, and other business partners to identify priorities, communicate progress, and recommend improvements. You will also ensure compliance with safety regulations and help control company costs.
Responsibilities
- Complete required paperwork, including expense vouchers, weekly summaries, refrigerant logs, and work orders.
- Assist with gathering capital expenditures lists and developing scopes of work for HVAC/R or energy management systems (e.g., rooftop units, condenser coil replacements).
- Identify and address issues related to HVAC/R service.
- Perform major and minor preventive maintenance and repairs on HVAC/R equipment, emergency management systems, and direct digital control equipment (e.g., replacing electrical motors, installing compressors, adjusting belts).
- Troubleshoot and diagnose HVAC/R problems, perform minor repairs, and schedule major repairs and maintenance.
- Inspect, maintain, and coordinate repairs for company vehicles and heavy machinery in accordance with company policies.
- Safely operate motor vehicles, ensuring compliance with documentation, fuel, water levels, brake condition, signals, and lights.
- Submit maintenance invoices for payment and verify vehicle insurance coverage and validity.
- Wear company uniform and badge as required.
- Comply with company policies, procedures, and standards of ethics and integrity.
- Adapt to change, difficulties, and feedback while identifying improvement opportunities.
- Assist in controlling costs by conducting price comparisons for refrigerants, parts, and travel-related expenses, and submitting warranty claims.
- Work or train at multiple facilities or distant locations as needed.
Requirements
- Hold and maintain Universal or Type I and Type II Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certification for refrigerant handling.
- Valid state-issued driver’s license and ability to pass a motor vehicle report.
- Option 1: 1 year’s experience in plumbing, electrical, material handling equipment, or related area.
- Option 2: 2 years’ Walmart store experience.
- EPA 608 Certification within 90 days of hire.
- Commercial driving record with no convictions for DUI, DWI, or OUI within the last five (5) years.
- No more than two (2) moving violations in the last three (3) years.
- No preventable accidents while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in mechanical maintenance or construction-related area for commercial HVAC/R and building controls.
- Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and presentation software (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Prior work experience reading blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Prior work experience using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.

Pay
The hourly wage range for this position is $26.00 - $51.00. The actual hourly rate will equal or exceed the required minimum wage applicable to the job location. Additional compensation in the form of premiums may be paid in amounts ranging from $0.35 per hour to $3.00 per hour in specific circumstances (e.g., based on schedule, facility, season, or specific work performed). Multiple premiums may apply if applicable criteria are met.
