Development Manager
Compensation: $75,000 - $90,000/year. Hybrid role based in the San Francisco Bay Area with occasional in-office meetings and minimal travel required.
About Us
Founded in 1976, Bay Area Community Resources (BACR) works in the heart of our communities to foster generational change. One of the largest and most diversified community-based organizations in Northern California, BACR operates as a single integrated platform with shared leadership, systems, and values. We believe generational change requires infrastructure, operational excellence, and the ability to respond to emerging needs at scale. We provide integrated access to people, programs, and resources—from a child’s first years through adulthood—serving tens of thousands of individuals annually across the Greater San Francisco Bay Area.
About the Role
In this newly created role, the Development Manager will play a critical role in helping BACR embrace and unlock an organization-wide culture of philanthropy. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will serve as the operational engine of BACR’s growing fundraising function, empowering the CEO and five Executive Directors to raise funds effectively. While Executive Directors retain primary responsibility for fundraising in their program areas, this position will deepen BACR’s org-wide focus on philanthropy by driving coordination, accountability, and systems across development efforts.
Responsibilities
- Coordination & Accountability: Maintain a stewardship calendar of grant deadlines, donor touchpoints, campaigns, and events. Ensure the CEO and Executive Directors stay ahead of deadlines, track fundraising commitments, and provide timely reminders and progress check-ins.
- Schedule and coordinate donor, funder, and prospect meetings on behalf of leadership.
- Meeting Preparation & Follow-Up: Prepare agendas, briefing materials, and funder research summaries; capture notes and action items; draft and send follow-up correspondence to ensure commitments are honored.
- Grants & Reporting Support: Draft grant proposals, letters of inquiry, applications, and funder reports in collaboration with the CEO, Executive Directors, and finance staff. Support outreach by drafting emails and other communications. Maintain direct communications with prospects to secure meetings and steward relationships.
- Develop and maintain a library of boilerplate language, program descriptions, budgets, and standard attachments to streamline proposal development.
- Collaborate with the Contracts team to track foundation, government, and corporate grants at all stages—from prospect research through application, award, reporting, and renewal.
- Development Narrative: Help shape the org-wide fundraising narrative (“the system behind the safety net”), work with leadership to define investment opportunities, and lead efforts to find relevant data and citations to support messaging.
- Donor Database & Records: Develop and maintain the Salesforce donor database, including accurate entry of gifts, contacts, and actions; generate acknowledgment letters; and produce pipeline and revenue reports for leadership.
- Development Initiatives: Play a key coordinating role in potential future initiatives, including individual donor, major gifts, grassroots support, and/or planned giving efforts.
- Culture of Philanthropy: Serve as an internal resource and champion, helping program staff understand and embrace their role in fundraising.
- Other duties as assigned by the CEO.
