Development Manager

About the role

The Development Manager is a key member of the Appell Center’s Development team, responsible for planning, managing, and executing fundraising initiatives that support the mission, programming, and long-term sustainability of the organization. This role oversees donor and sponsor cultivation, stewardship, grant writing and annual giving programs. The Development Manager works closely with the Director of Development, President & CEO, senior leadership, board members, and community partners to build strong relationships that increase philanthropic support.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategies to grow and sustain membership giving, including new member prospecting and current member retention; oversee solicitation and stewardship process
  • Implement special giving appeals including holiday campaign and Give Local York
  • Create and manage a Donor Engagement and Cultivation plan to increase renewal rates and drive higher levels of giving
  • Engage donors, prospects, and partners at events both during and outside of regular business hours
  • Develop and execute member cultivation events
  • Draft copy and proofread related communications and materials
  • Oversee annual donor lists and other donor recognition programs
  • Work closely with Development Assistant to conduct regular audits of development database procedures and ensure that procedures are streamlined and updated
  • Develop and implement strategies to retain and grow sponsorship and EITC support from businesses and corporations; cultivate corporate support and build relationships that create pathways to support
  • Create compelling sponsorship packages and manage sponsorship sales process
  • Execute tracking and reporting of sponsor benefits to demonstrate value, impact and pave the way for renewal
  • Oversee grant management, including preparation of proposals, timely submission of required follow-up reports, and compliance with all funding guidelines; lead grant writer for Cultural Alliance, foundation, government, education and special projects grants
  • Work with Director of Development and relevant staff to create grant strategy and develop timelines, budgets, and measures of impact
  • Support the organization in other duties and special projects as assigned
  • Attend member/donor events, Strand Theatre events where Donor Lounge is open, and other selected events in Strand and Capitol Theatres (approximately 40–50 nights per year)

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Three or more years of development/fundraising experience in a non-profit organization, including grant writing

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, climb or balance. The employee is often required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and will occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Excellent hearing is essential.

Pay

$67,500.00 – $72,500.00 per year
