About the Role

Join a team passionate about building inspiring spaces and pushing the industry forward in smarter, more innovative ways. As a Development Intern at Mortenson Development, Inc. (MDI), you’ll work closely with our seven regional development offices on a wide range of new development and acquisition opportunities across several asset classes. You’ll gain unique insight working alongside our skilled team of development staff, legal staff, and the MDI executive team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide underwriting and evaluation support across multiple property types, including medical office, multifamily, hotel, industrial, and land asset classes, and alternative investments
  • Prepare information memoranda and associated materials for distribution to potential investors and lenders
  • Conduct research on existing and potential markets by identifying trends, macro/microeconomic drivers, and demographics that impact real estate investment strategies
  • Support the overall due diligence process from pre-development through completion/disposition
  • Develop and implement financial models to support credit analysis
  • Conduct analytical work in support of the financing strategies of potential capital market activities
  • Engage in complex financial modeling, valuations, underwriting, creation of offering memoranda (debt and equity), asset management, and capital raising

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate, four-year degree in Real Estate, Finance, or other related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous related internship experience
  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate junior
  • Basic understanding of construction and generally accepted business practices
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Initiative and leadership abilities
  • Positive and professional attitude with solid customer service skills
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to handle multiple competing priorities

Pay

The hourly wage for college interns starts at $18. Students may be paid higher wages based on their year in school.

Visa sponsorship is not offered for this position. Must be currently legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B, O-1, TN, CPT, OPT, etc.).
