About the Role
Provides leadership and support in grant writing, program planning, and program development. You will write and submit funding proposals and other significant documents in a timely manner, support the agency’s social media presence, and lead projects in development and communication, including data collection, publications, marketing, and reporting to funders.
Responsibilities
- Conceptualize and develop high-level, complex proposals and submit them in a timely manner.
- Develop and write funding proposals and applications to government entities (federal, state, county, and city), foundations, United Way, and other funding sources.
- Provide leadership on large grant proposals, as assigned.
- Use strong writing, proofreading, and editing skills to complete all assigned writing projects and edit the work of others in the department and agency.
- Work with the Director of Development and Communication to implement the agency’s development plan and fundraising activities, including creative input, product development, and clerical support.
- Maintain and expand electronic and social media presences.
- Coordinate with VPs, Administrators, and Program Directors to search for grants and other funding opportunities for new or existing programs.
- Provide leadership and support in donor identification, cultivation, and recognition; develop and strengthen foundation and corporate relationships.
- Solicit donations, advertising, and in-kind goods/services to promote WCS programs and special events.
- Lead assigned projects related to agency Public Relations and Capital Campaigns.
- Collect, write, and archive success stories for development department and broader agency use.
- Contribute articles and stories to the bimonthly external/internal WCS newsletter, annual report, and other publications.
- Lead special writing projects with the WCS Executive Team and other Senior Leadership staff.
- Create writing templates for specific uses, including standard agency resource pieces and proposal items.
- Develop relationships with the media and secure ongoing coverage of WCS work in partnership with the Director and department staff.
- Prepare, review, and distribute media and press releases.
- Gather agency statistics and external data related to areas such as the justice system, community reintegration, behavioral health, and peer support.
- Maintain a central agency filing system for currently funded programming and projects.
- Update records of submitted proposals and applications, tracking results as they become known.
- Prepare and deliver presentations on behalf of the agency.
- Attend conferences, community meetings, and community-building events to represent the agency.
- Supervise interns placed in the Development and Communication Department.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in communication, public policy, social welfare, or a related field.
- Five to ten years of experience with proposal/grant writing and institutional donors.
- Knowledge of fundraising and research techniques, fundraising strategies, and informational sources.
- Experience using Microsoft 365 (Word, Outlook, Excel), databases, design/presentation software, and event software.
Pay
$65,000 - $80,000 yearly salary.
