Detention Facility Security Officer - Armed Access

Responsibilities

• Provide customer service to staff, visitors, and authorized personnel by carrying out security‑related procedures, site‑specific policies, and, when appropriate, emergency response activities within a correctional government location.
• Respond to incidents, disturbances, and critical situations in a calm, professional, problem‑solving manner, following established reporting and escalation procedures.
• Conduct regular and random unarmed patrols of assigned buildings, grounds, access points, and perimeter areas to help deter unauthorized activity and identify unusual conditions.
• Monitor access to designated areas, verify authorization as required, and report suspicious activity, policy violations, and facility concerns to appropriate personnel.
• Prepare accurate daily activity reports, incident documentation, and shift handoff communications in accordance with site‑specific requirements.

Requirements

• Valid driver’s license in the state where the job is located.
• 1+ years law enforcement experience OR 2+ years security supervisor/manager experience OR 3+ years security experience.
• Armed Guard Card/License.
• At least 21 years of age for armed roles.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Pass a background investigation in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws.
• Pass a drug screen to the extent permitted by law.
• Participate in industry‑specific security training programs.
• Licensing requirements may be required prior to employment, subject to state and/or local laws.
