Desktop Deployment Laborer - TS Clearance

About the role

This is an entry-level, hands-on labor position focused on the physical installation, cabling, and setup of desktop devices, network hardware, and IT equipment. Under direct supervision, you will perform basic installation tasks and structured cabling but will not be responsible for network administration, cybersecurity compliance, or software configuration.

Responsibilities

• Installs desktop deployment products and peripheral devices according to Installation Design Plan (IDP) under close supervision.
• Ensures quality installation tasks throughout work performance.

Physical Hardware Installation

• Unbox, position, and physically mount desktop computers (thick and thin clients), monitors, and basic IT gear.
• Connect clients, peripherals, and IT equipment assigned to the desk.
• Install docking stations, Keyboard-Video-Mouse (KVM) switches, display adaptors, and high-speed connectivity cables.
• Install and secure biometric peripherals, dual-monitor arrays, brackets, VoIP phones, A/V soundbars, webcams, and workstation peripherals.
• Record serial numbers for installed products in a timely manner.
• Assemble IT racks and assist with mounting servers and switches into designated spaces.
• Securely install basic AV equipment, including mounting screens, speakers, and video teleconferencing (VTC) hardware.
• Assist with logistics operations within the warehouse to support desktop deployment installation tasks.
• Remove trash and packing materials to keep the work area clear of debris.

Cabling & Support

• Pull, route, and neatly organize (dress) copper and fiber optic cables through trays, cable management pathways, and under floors.
• Customize cable dressing or loom desk cables with onsite materials and route cables through protective coverings.
• Ensure desk cables are completely hidden and safe from tripping hazards.
• Mount under-desk cable trays or J-channels to route and hide power bricks and peripheral cords.
• Terminate basic network cables and apply clear, accurate labels to all cables and ports.
• Install rack power strips (PDUs), route power cables, and assist with basic grounding tasks.

Facility & Lab Support

• Assist with physical lab organization, including moving floor tiles and installing grommets.
• Maintain a clean, safe workspace and help track physical inventory of tools and equipment.
• Perform basic power-on self-tests (POST) to verify installed equipment physically turns on.

Requirements

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
• Experience in government contracting preferred.
• Must possess standard technician hand tools (screwdrivers, cable strippers, pliers).
• Ability to drive to local client sites within a 50-mile radius of the home station.
• Strong desire to learn physical IT installation techniques and follow instructions closely.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Computer Science and a minimum of 6 months of relevant experience in IT installation tasks, or equivalent combination of education/experience.
• Basic knowledge of computer hardware, Ethernet connections, and common hand tools.
• Familiarity with routing, pulling, and labeling structured cables (Cat6).
• No advanced IT security certifications required.

Physical Demands

• Work is primarily performed in office/jobsite settings, IT labs, and server rooms with exposure to moderate noise and dust.
• Regularly required to use hands, reach with hands and arms, occasionally above head.
• Regularly required to twist at the waist, climb and descend stairs while carrying objects.
• Frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; occasionally required to sit and climb or balance.
• Regularly lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds; occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds; may assist with heavier loads over 50 lbs.
• Works near moving mechanical parts; may be exposed to warehouse, truck, or forklift noise.
• Utilizes ladders, stairs, and shelving systems; may use hand tools and electric tools.

Pay

$24/hour–$30/hour, with the final offer contingent on location, skillset, and experience.
