Designer, Power Delivery
About the role
CobbFendley is seeking an experienced Power Delivery Designer in our Atlanta, Georgia office.
Responsibilities
Design + Analysis
- Support Project Managers, Project Engineers, and Senior Designers with assigned design tasks under supervision.
- Utilize engineering and drafting software to develop plan, profile, cross-section, and utility drawings from survey data, record drawings, and design criteria.
- Interpret survey notes, utility records, specifications, and engineering plans to develop accurate base drawings.
- Translate rough sketches, design concepts, and engineering direction into construction drawings.
- Incorporate redline markups and review comments.
- Perform basic engineering calculations, including elevations, grades, utility dimensions, and material quantities.
- Support field data collection and utility research to inform design development if applicable.
Compliance + Quality
- Apply Company QA/QC processes and procedures in the preparation of design deliverables.
- Perform self-checks on drawings and data for accuracy, completeness and consistency.
- Maintain organized and accurate project files and documentation.
Communication + Collaboration
- Work with supervisor, Project Manager, mentors, and various internal personnel to complete assignments within discipline.
- Cookordination with project teams to support design development.
Training, Learning + Advancement
- Learn and apply company drafting standards, workflows, and design tools.
- Participate in training, learning and advancement opportunities, may assist with the development of others in a mentorship role and/or developing tools and resources.
Client + Internal Satisfaction
- Support internal project teams by delivering assigned work accurately and on schedule.
- May work with internal clients daily and escalate concerns when needed.
Technical
- Apply the client’s standards, guidelines, specifications, practices, and procedures and/or appropriate industry standards in preparing layouts of overhead and/or underground electric distribution facilities.
- Prepare manual or computer assisted design and construction drawings of a complex nature, cost estimates and bill of materials and any other required documents and reports for construction and maintenance projects.
- Aid in the performance of load studies on distribution circuits and transformers; investigate circuit reliability and voltage issues to determine necessary corrective action.
- Prepare and submit required reports and correspondence.
- Utilize client and Company information systems to track and update design activities.
- Acquire field data necessary to prepare the appropriate design.
- Ability to handle contacts with clients and other agencies in connection with project design responsibilities.
- Field verification of equipment and marking/staking new facilities.
- Independent research and adapt to changing priorities.
- Engineering and electric utility construction knowledge of GIS and AutoCAD.
- Experience in ArcFM, GDT, JETS, or AutoCAD AUD is a plus.
Qualifications
- Intermediate // Developing skills with some practical experience; able to perform tasks with assistance. 3+ years of design experience.
- Knowledge of engineering design principles, applicable codes and standards, and established design practices used in the planning and development of projects.
- Skills in using industry-standard engineering design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, ArcGIS, Microsoft Office, etc.) to develop, modify, and coordinate engineering designs, drawings, and technical deliverables.
- Ability to analyze data, apply design criteria, and use standard office and engineering software to produce accurate design documentation and support project completion.

Schedule
This is a full-time position, generally 40 hours per week, however, hours may fluctuate depending on department needs including the use of overtime. CobbFendley’s standard operating hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM CST. Generally, employees receive a 1-hour unpaid lunch break free of duty. Please note, operating hours and lunch hours may differ based on project workload, primarily for field staff.

This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule once the training period is complete as established by the department.
