Designer Intern

A Designer must have a strong design background and a desire to use creativity to design systems that enhance productivity, quality, and the working environment of facilities. A Designer supports the design team by developing industrial process flows, equipment layouts, and applying design methodologies required to produce Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and general arrangement equipment layout drawings. They support developing the scope of the project including spatial requirements, operational considerations, building use, equipment, and consider the overall safety, budget, schedule, and quality of large, complex construction projects from project inception through project completion. Incorporate applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements (OSHA, NFPA, FM, local/state codes) into all process designs. Prioritize safety in all designs, considering construction personnel, operators, customers, and the public. Support scope development, conceptual design, and technical documentation (specifications, narratives, design assumptions). Analyze process requirements and constraints to develop practical, constructible design solutions. Evaluate designs for safety, manufacturability, functionality, and potential failure modes. Perform basic field observations and communicate design gaps, risks, or improvement opportunities to project leadership. Support continuous improvement by incorporating lessons learned, field feedback, and emerging technologies where appropriate. Revit Modeling: Develop and maintain accurate 3D models that reflect design intent, layout constraints, and coordination requirements. Coordinate models with internal teams and external partners to ensure alignment across disciplines. Support resolution of design issues, clashes, and constructability concerns during modeling. Maintain alignment between models, drawings, and project documentation. Communicate effectively with project stakeholders to ensure clarity of design intent and progress. Produce Fabrication Drawings from Models: Generate clear, accurate fabrication drawings directly from coordinated models. Ensure drawings reflect design intent, specifications, safety requirements, and production needs. Deliver drawing packages that meet expectations for quality, completeness, and timeliness. Support coordination with vendors, fabricators, and project team members to resolve detailing issues. Produce Field Installation Drawings from Revit Models: Produce installation drawings that support efficient and safe field execution. Incorporate constructability considerations, including sequencing, access, and installation constraints. Support coordination with project partners to identify and resolve issues prior to construction. Participate in coordination meetings and track open items, actions, and required updates. Utilize collaboration tools to ensure alignment across project stakeholders. Equipment List Authoring: Develop and maintain accurate equipment lists aligned with process and design requirements. Support equipment selection, specification, and procurement activities. Coordinate with vendors and project teams to ensure equipment meets design intent and performance needs. Assist in buyout activities, including vendor selection and scope alignment. Evaluate equipment performance and identify opportunities for process improvement. Represent the company professionally through interactions with customers, partners, and suppliers. EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS: 2 or 4year degree from college or technical school in structural, architectural, or mechanical drafting, years of exceptional experience as a drafter and willingness to obtain desired education is also encouraged to apply. 3 years drafting work experience or in a similar position, preferred. Working knowledge of basic computer programs like Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and online collaboration tools. Proficient in Autodesk/Plant Design Suite products like and Revit and AutoCAD is desired, with knowledge of Inventor, Navisworks, etc., beneficial. Travel up to 20% or as needed, by air and ground. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Exerting 2050 pounds of force occasionally, 1025 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly. Continuously requires vision, hearing, twisting, and talking. Frequently requires standing, fine dexterity, sitting, and handling, typical of office work. Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, scaffolds, and stairs, and work in confined spaces and near loud equipment. Must be able to position oneself to work in confined spaces such as trenches, pits, manholes, attics, and tunnels. Must be able to move safely over uneven, irregular, or steep terrain and within confined spaces. Must be able to respond quickly to sounds and see and respond to dangerous situations. Must be able to wear personal protective gear most of the day. Must be able to work in cold/hot environments and on concrete floors. Occasionally requires walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, kneeling, pushing/pulling, bending, and crouching. Must be able to stand for extended durations.
