Designer II Electrical

Responsibilities

  • Understand and develop wiring diagrams, connection diagrams, one-line/three-line diagrams, schematic/elementary diagrams, logic diagrams and conduit/raceway diagrams.
  • Produce complex 2D engineering drawings.
  • Check drawings for accuracy including dimensions, spelling, drafting standards and completeness utilizing correct project design criteria.
  • Participate in field walk downs as necessary, to obtain measurements, verify as-built documentation, and develop field sketches in support of plant modifications and design installations.
  • Exercise independent judgment to develop designs with minimal direction from Design Supervisor, Design Lead or Engineering and concurrently support multiple projects.
  • Communicate with project engineers and other disciplines to develop drawings and resolve design discrepancies.
  • Interface with the customer and their construction representatives to integrate designs to satisfy their standards.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in drafting, design or engineering technology or 4 years of equivalent experience in the design of electrical and controls systems.
  • 5 years (minimum) of experience in engineering drafting and electrical design practices in addition to the education requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A demonstrated ability to direct drafting personnel on drawing assignments.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation CAD software packages (or an equivalent software package) and Microsoft Office software, Word, Excel, etc.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge of design practices, codes, and standards applicable to electrical/I&C systems.
  • Working knowledge of electrical design principles and practices and a working knowledge of Wiring Diagrams.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Ability to pass security and drug screening and maintain unescorted commercial nuclear plant access.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge or use of Raster Design or 3D modeling experience is a plus.
  • Ability to utilize various drafting and CADD techniques as required for project requirements.
  • Additional certifications and/or courses in basic electronics and/or electrical systems desired.
  • Recent plant modification package development and/or field experience on nuclear power plant projects is a plus.
