About the role
We’re searching for an Apparel Designer with a sharp trend eye, elevated design aesthetic, and the agility to create across multiple style worlds—from high-end casual to American heritage to performance athleisure. This role is not just about designing beautiful products—it’s about owning the process from concept to delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate trend, fabric, and cultural insights into on-brand, commercially successful designs.
- Concept and design across fleece, athleisure, and seasonal drops with an elevated yet wearable aesthetic.
- Own vendor communication for all design-related matters, ensuring clarity on product intent, materials, and execution.
- Collaborate closely with product development, sourcing, and marketing to move from idea to launch—fast.
- Design Execution: Oversee the entire design process, from initial concept to final product development, including Fit and Garment construction.
- Create tech packs with detailed specs, construction methods, and BOMs for production accuracy.
- Color merchandising—develop seasonal color palettes and apply them strategically across categories.
- Create graphics and patterns that align with Comfrt’s brand identity and seasonal stories.
- Create and manage seasonal visual line plans to guide product flow, merchandising strategy, and assortment balance.
- Understand and work within garment cost targets while maintaining design integrity.
- Track and align designs with production timelines, ensuring on-time delivery.
- Participate in fittings and ensure accurate product fit that meets Comfrt’s standards.
- Maintain Comfrt’s design DNA while pushing boundaries and innovating for the future.
Qualifications & Skills
- Qualifications:
- 7+ years in apparel design with a portfolio showing exceptional taste and commercial success.
- Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and ideally 3D design tools.
- Highly knowledgeable in textiles, garment construction, fit, and performance fabrics.
- Experienced in vendor communication and navigating production realities.
- Entrepreneurial, collaborative, and solutions-focused with a positive, can-do attitude.
- Strong understanding of garment costing and timelines.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, high-growth environment, able to pivot quickly and work long hours when launches demand it.
- West coast time zone preferred.
- Skills:
- Creative and Artistic Ability: A strong eye for design, color, and detail.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in sketching, pattern making, draping, and garment construction.
- Computer-Aided Design (CAD): Knowledge of design software like Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and CAD/CAM systems.
- Knowledge of Fashion Trends: Understanding of current and emerging fashion trends, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Ability to effectively communicate design ideas and collaborate with others.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot design challenges and find creative solutions.
- Business Acumen: Understanding of the fashion industry, market trends, and business operations.
- Organizational and Time Management Skills: Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Education:
- A bachelor's degree in fashion design, textile design, or a related field is typically required.
- Experience:
- Relevant experience through internships or previous design roles.
